What's up with my crazy window?
This morning after locking my car (using the remote) I realized I forgot something in the center console and went back. As I exited the car the 2nd time, the driver's window came down by itself halfway. I found that the window switch would not raise the window...only lower it. I had to restart the car to get the switch to work. The same thing happened twice later that day; as soon as I turned the ignition off and removed the key, the driver's window went down half way. Again it requried a restart to function. What the heck is going on?!
ps- of course it was raining today!

time to replace the switch.
one of my many problems was the switch going out - the window would not stay down those 1-2 inches when you release the door handle. door wouldn't shut b/c the window was all the way up.

My window seems to come back up all the way prior to closing the door. Almost as soon as I let go of the handle. Seems to be a break someplace near the handle.
Since then Chris has purchased 13 different turbo kits and sold them all.
He is still running stock K16's w/ a flash and an exhaust.
In the meantime, the window issue has miraculously resolved itself.

By far one of the funniest posts I have ever read on 6speed.
when the window doesn't do the little "drop" needed to clear the frame, this usually indicates a broken/worn window regulator. Its a diy, but you'll need the instructios from renntech. When my 996 had this problem I bought a used regulator from a breaker yard for 100 bucks and it was fine from then on.
If this is not your problem, then I would try "resetting" the windows (hold button down until the window is all th way down, then immediately push the "up" button and hold it down until the window is all the way up, and then press and hold the down button until the window is all the way down. This makes the window "relearn" the stopping points, and worked for me once after the window started acting weird. good luck.

I just had my door latch replaced today...
My driver's side window would not lower when shutting the door - this so the window could clear the overhanging plastic liner on the convertible top. There would be a loud bang when the window impacted the liner, causing me to shudder each time I forgot to hold the door handle open when closing it (to manually force the window to lower).
The part number listed on the receipt was 8N1-837-015C Door Latch, with the cost being $197.03. Labor was $280, for a total of $477.03. I have a $100 deductible on my extended warranty from JMA, so I only had to pay that part of it.
I had the work done at the dealership, so costs will vary for other situations.
During this work, the tech dropped a screwdriver, slightly scratching my leather door trim, so they've ordered new trim for replacement. They've been good in working on my car in the past, so I wasn't upset. Just one of those things...

Yup, sounds like a similar issue...
That's what mine was doing, though it was intermittent - on some occasions it would automatically drop as it was supposed to.
The problem started around the same time we got really cold weather in Seattle (lots of snow), but I don't know if the two were linked.

My problem is similar. The problem is with the passenger side window. When I lift the door handle, the window will go all the way down instead of the half inch down. This happen about 30 percent of the time that the handle is lifted. I have replaced the Window regulator and the problem didn't go away. I have since bought a new window locking mechanism but it seems to malfunction as the door will not lock, (but the window problem still happens) which defeats the purpose. Any suggestions besides get a new mechanism?

One thing to note is that my car hasn't been driven for 5 weeks. Its been parked and locked with no battery tender and only started up this past weekend.
4G64T - It seems like you've been battling this problem for nearly 8 months. Can you list all of the things you have tried?

i had the same problem. the window was possessed. it turned out to be a faulty window regulator. fixed under cpo warranty at the dealer. actually was the best dealer experience i ever had, i went in there with my dukes up ready to scratch and claw to get them to fix it under warranty and i did not even have to ask. kudos to schnieder and nelson.
