Has anyone installed two different sized turbos on each side?

Lets say a k16 on one side and a K24 on the other? Would there be any benefit to this? More / Less power?

this has been discuss millions of times. Most of the case, bigger turbo give you more power along with correct program. Bigger turbo also equal more turbo lag. K24 with give you more power but also more turbo lag than K16. Some tuner use hybrid turbo for quicker spool up time. I'm sure there will be more experts to help you here.

U just about summed it up. k16 based housing doesnt produce big power. ist great for what it is... Kevin takes the k16 and ports it to k24 specs... others like Todd Knighton uses k24s base turbos and converts them to k24/18g.. as well as other garrett internals form gt30r for example. evoms/A also have a bunch of hybrids when u get up in the gt640 /700 and up packages... kkk housings with garrett internals...
The trick is to ask questions, expect results and better yet have a chance to drive the package ur about to buy... thats my opinion.
I did notice that most good tuners are around the same HP figures when it comes to k24 stock turbos and ecu... its about 550 hp.. give or take 30 hp.
its hard to make 600 hp on a k24... 570Hp -YES. I had a few set ups and they utilized the k24 turbos... and they all were with the specs... running 1.2 bars.... but if u want to make decent power... u really need a k24 based hybrid as a start. if want to run on a stock fuel system, 5 bar FPR... the gt640, speed gallerys stage 5, or protos k24/18g would be my 3 choices.

Mark and Ray, I don't think this is the question he is asking...I think he wants to know if you can install a K24 on one side and a K16 on the other. I really am no expert, but I think this would be a mistake.

I think your right there WROSS that is the question he's asking! and it wouldn't be very wise to do that. Turbos are meant to work in conjuction with each other! Pointless

Wross & Stevo,

That IS what I'm asking...one for bottom end and one for top end. The air from both turbos go through the same pipe.?

hEY mARKsKI so what about Kevins Stage 5 turbos. So are you saying that you would only recommend the GT640, speed gallery stage 5, protos. What about promotives turbos?

It would need different amounts of fuel injected on each bank, 2 sets of maps, etc. It would probably perform like it had intermediate sized turbos.

Exactly, too much work and change even if possible for hardly any big noticeable power gain!

Hybrid turbos have been available for 996TTs for many years. I previously used a K16/K24 hybrid from Speed Gallery that worked amazing (K16 turbine and K24 compressor)!! Speed Gallery has several different programs for these turbos. Thereafter, I used Kevin/Ultimate Motorwerks' Stage V ZC K16/K26 hybrid (also supplied by Speed Gallery -- K16 turbine and K26 compressor) -- this turbo also worked great!!! Speed Gallery has a proprietary program for this turbo. Now, I use an EVOMS GT800 turbo which is also a hybrid, incorporating a KKK turbine and a Garrett compressor. This turbo also works great!!!

The purpose of hybrid turbos is to minimize lag through the use of smaller turbines, while increasing power through larger compressors. This is a delicate balance . . . if the delta in size between the turbine and the compressor is too great, the turbine will not be able to keep up with the compressor, and the power curve will flatten prematurely (without producing power commensurate with the compressor size). I had this happen on an experimental K16/K27 hybrid turbo I tried out. Thats why I ultimately switched to the tried and tested GT800 turbos. EVOMS spent a great deal of time optimizing the turbine/compressor combination, including several unsuccessful pairings, before they found the right balance. My original Speed Gallery hybrid, and my subsequent Ultimate Motorwerks’ Stage V ZC hybrid also achieved a good balance.

LOL everyone is misunderstanding what he's asking.. Basically take your rear bumper off, remove one K16 turbo and replace with an OEM K24 turbo, now you have K16 turbo on drivers side and K24 turbo on passenger side, that's what he wanted to know!
