First 996TT in the 9's? Anyone know "Jorge Diaz"?
http://www.dragtimes.com/Porsche-911...slip-9117.html
Lots of written info..but it stills seems fishy. No 60' time listed either. |
He says it was a stage 3 / 4... boosting 1.8 bars...
That Giac ecu is capped at 1.3 bars period. Sounds fishy as well but lets see the outcome... |
We ran a 9.78 @ 136 in our Chevy at Drag Day...with a 1.38 60' time, 3 speed transmission, full tub, line lock, ladder bars. etc...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...170/2d_1_b.jpg I would think for a 996TT to run 9's, the MPH would have to be in the high, high 130's or 140's, 134 seems rather low for that ET. |
The guy claims that the car was built by EVOMS (everything but the intercooler chiller), so they can probably shed some light on the 9 second claim. That being said, it appears to me that there are SEVERAL inconsistencies on the Drag Time page which cause me to be somewhat skeptical. In no particular order:
1. There are no intermediate times posted, nor a confirming time slip. 2. “1/4 Mile MPH: 134.410” -- Based on the trap times of other mid and low 10 second 996TTs, a 134 trap for a 9 second pass is way too low. I would expect the trap to be in the 140s (perhaps 139). 3. “Temperature F: 94.0”-- that is damn hot -- difficult to get a good time in that heat. 4. “Boost Pressure (psi): over 1.8 bar” -- GIAC does have a throttle body work around in order to generate greater than 1.3 bar. However, you MUST reinforce your internals in order to run this much boost (see below). Markski incorrectly interpreted the Drag Time page as stating that the guy has a Stage III/IV package. This is not what the guy wrote. He stated that he has four different programs. That is consistent with using a Chipswitch, which permits the use of four different GIAC programs (stock, valet, street and race). The guys identifies turbos (“Evoms K24 housing with Garrett ball bearing internals”) and headers (“44.5 mm primary tube stainless steel”) consistent with a GT750/800 package. 5. “Boost Control: Variable rate external” -- EVOMS does NOT use an external boost controller. Rather, they use a Chpswitch to change between programs, and the guy wrote that he uses such a Chipswitch. Therefore, the external boost controller is inconsistent. 6. “Connecting Rods: stock” -- I do not believe that EVOMS would build a car running over 1.8 bar of boost, and not change the rods. Moreover, both the GT750 and 800 packages include upgraded rods. The guys wrote that he did head work (see below), so the engine was out of the car. No way that EVOMS would not have changed the rods at the same time. Moreover, the stock rods would not be able to endure the turbos and boost that he is running. 7. “Rings (seals): stock” -- No way EVOMS would not have changed the head gasket given the other mods. Moreover, the OEM gasket would not be able to handle the listed mods and boost. 8: “Fuel Injectors: “ -- He does not identify any modifications to his fuel system, including the injectors. EVOMS installs larger injectors for both its GT750 and 800 packages, along with other fuel system upgrades. In order to generate the power necessary to run a 9 second pass (and to run 1.8 bar), one would need to upgrade the injectors and fuel system. 9. “Heads: Port Polish and Reduced” -- “Reduced”??? WTF is that. Head work involves enlarging the passage ways and ports. 10. “Throttle Body: modified stock throttle body” – EVOMS does NOT use a “modified stock throttle body.” Rather, they use a larger 996NA or GT3 throttle body. 11. “Intake & Air Filter: Custom evoms with extra brackets to allow extra bo” -- “Extra bracket”??? WTF is that? 12. “Ignition: custom” -- WTF is a “custom ignition” on a 996TT? Anyone ever heard of that? 13. “Suspension: gt3 cup with adjustable valves” -- Anyone ever heard of this on a 996TT? EVOMS uses Motons. 14. “Brake Rotors/Pads: stock“ -- So many mods and so much power, yet stock brakes???? 15. “Tires: michelin street slicks” WTF are “Michelin street slicks”? Does Michelin even make a slick? Will it fit an 18 in tire. The Cups are terrible ΒΌ mile tires. 16. “Transmission syncs have to be modified to allow power shifting” -- Anyone ever heard of this on a 996TT (as distinct from modifications to the gearing, which he states that he did not do)?? 17: “Exhaust: sport stainless w/100 cell catalysts” -- In order to get the flow necessary to do a 9 second pass, one would likely have to remove the cats and chamber mufflers. Suffice it to say that I am not convinced. Craig |
Im not sure how to interpret his statement...
This is what he wrote: "Times with pump gas and stage 3 on the 4 stage computer, 1.65 to 1.7 bar are: 10.4 Michelin and 10.5 Bridgestone" so he meant that hes running a race program(stage 3) on stage 4 ? I really dont think it matters if hes running stage 3 or 4... 3 on 4.... or what ever else he think he has. I dont think knows anything more then what he read on Evoms website. |
He's running a stock carburetor thoughhilarious

I know this drag stripp it has a 16 Degree decline in the strip... I know its hard to launch your car thats why the 60' time might be missing.. I think i ran a shopping cart there once with a stage 3 ball bearing wheel setup and hit some where in the low 7's...it was insane...
Just to let you know My skyline when it pushed about 7 to the wheel did high 9's on bf goodrich tires... but that thing weighed in at an even 3 with me in the car.... |

Hmm...interesting. Thank you for the great research, Divi.
|
Scott, I emailed Jorge Diaz and invited him to join this forum. Maybe that way we can find out more about his Dragstrip run.

Thanks, Divi. I'm sure quite a few of us would really like to find out more details. Hopefully he'll post.
