There are reasons why we buy Porsches, but if you are truly wanting to build fast street legal cars at a great price then you should stay domestic. For example, Mid 80s mustangs can be purchased less that 5 grand and 15 to 20 grand later you have a car that can run low 8 to high 7's. HP Performance turbo kit for mustangs have ran 7.99 @ 177 in the street legal outlaw class! Not to bad for around 20 grand? You will easily spend 15 to 20 grand on a Titan 3.4 kit and that is just the beginning. Converting to a TH 400 etc.... all of this will get costly? I quess it just depends on what you want.

You can get a stroker motor, turbo kit, fuel and all supporting mods for a Supra for $22k-25k plus the cost of the car which you can find used for $25k. So basically for $50k you can have a 1,400 rwhp Supra. Not bad.

Its really hard to compare one brand that is relatively cheap to mod to another that is insanely expensive. The reason Supras go fast is becasue its cheap to do it. If our buildouts become more and more proven... R&D costs have tappered off... we will run 1200 rwhp... but for now we are stuck at 800+ rwhp...

Thats why Supra owners that street race can afford to throw a rod bearing... cheap & fast to fix. It costs us crazy money to do that. heck I know how guys street race and run for 10K becasue hey dont care that after running 50 psi on the 3rd race they probably will blow it up... I dont want to mention names but Im close to some race shops here and witnessed some supras with 88mm turbos being rebuilt every 3 months... Not bashing Supras.. heck I have a cheap *** Evo8 and I spank just about everything in my path... and thats only with 20K in the car... both guys here spend that kind of money on a set of turbos, ecu, exhaust, headers, and maybe a airbox.

Mark - you are 100% right, unfortunately, you guys get stuck with Porsche Tax. I found that Viper Tax was just as bad (when I had my 510 ci TT Viper). I can tell you, that as I've researched turbo packages/prices in the P-car community, you guys are getting ROCKED and the vendors are making LOTS of money. But you know what? That's ok, b/c the Supra world started the same way. $10k for a turbo kit! Hell, you can get a new one now for $3k.
Rob - Tuning... If a Supra is tuned right and the owner takes care of his car and always keeps the right gas, it should last (although at 1,200+ rwhp nothing will last forever). Take my car for example, same built motor for YEARS. Compression is strong, leakdown is strong, and I run it hard when I drive it. Her heart still beats strong! (knock on wood).
I truly believe that 99% of the stories everyone hears about happen for a variety of reason, but primarily:
1. Crappy tune.
2. Bad gas.
3. Short cuts when built.
4. Not taken care of.
Sean - if you are looking for a car like mine, 9k original miles, everything done right, you'll pay north of $90k. If you are looking for a 93 with 100k miles on the chassis and a built motor/1,000 rwhp, you can get in for $40k or so.

I wasn't really thinking about it. But with all the ***** measuring in this thread, I thought of looking at my AEM logs from the Texas Mile. It seems that on my 205.2 mph pass, my 60-130 time was 4.68.
If I can email the AEM log to somebody to verify it, I will. I was also on 20" Pirellis and 93 octane.
God Bless...

Kelly, that is GREAT! I wish 6speed would accept AEM logs. If so, I can probably gather 20 or so from various Supra's/Viper's. All would be in the 3's and 4's range. I'm just not sure that it will be accepted as "verified". I look forward to seeing what the new snake will do at TX2K8 on the same day/same conditions/etc...
KPG - they did not make a 6-speed TT and import to the U.S. in 1996. Not sure why the number was so low...
