All our cars are hybrids in every way...... Consider them K24s with a twist (no one has to know till you push the car).....

I am still waiting for Scott to verify my file...Lets hope he will do it today...

bc these turbos are considered hybrid turbos ....... it would be pretty damn funny. hilarious
It is too bad it is such a PITA to modify the MB V12 biturbo's (we have K24's from the factory but the manifold is built into the turbo housing and no room to navigate in that area). The 65 AMG's come with the "V12 BITURBO" badges on the front fenders...I think that would be some seriously funny sh!t to put the "HYBRID" badge next to it....but since I don't have "hybrid" turbos...I don't want to pose... hilarious Tom |

K24/18G's will bolt right into the exact same spot, no? You shouldn't have any clearance issues?

I think it is such a PITA because the manifold is built into the turbo housing....some claim that changing the compressor side is a problem. No one has spent the $'s to find out if it is a myth or not.

If in fact it IS a K24, leave the turbine housing in place and remove the rest of the turbo? The turbine housing stays the same anyway? I'm sure it won't be easy to get at all the turbine housing bolts...

Interesting point...like I said...no one has pulled the trigger and done it... I think the next issue would be do you need new software to run the "new" turbos to efficiency? You 911 guys are "lucky" that alot of R&D is out there because of all the crazy 911TT enthusiasts out there....most MB owners only care about how many badges they put on the grille for the mileage marks...
Tom Yes, you would need a tune as the 18G's are capable of MUCH more power. When I was custom building my own kits for my own cars, I used the T4 turbo so I could switch turbine housings easily between turbos to try different a/r's. Sort of doing the same thing except leaving the turbine housing in place. You just have to find someone to tune a MB. |
