Zero Clearance Experience:The Numbers Are In 0-60,0-100,60-130,30-50,ET,Trap

Well, the car is tuned and ready to run. I have my custom, all out 1.25+ bar program from Kevin at Ultimate Motorwerks installed. The upgraded wastegate springs are in and adjusted properly. I drove up to Mid Michigan Motorplex in Stanton,MI for their Sun Test n Tune. Weather was overcast and a balmy 62 degrees according to the outside air temp gauge in the car. All these times except the 30-50 and 50-70 were captured today at the track. 30-50 and 50-70 were taken on the street previously. Here is an overview of the times and I will detail the individual runs with graphs and run logs or time slips.
Best ET 11.753 Sec
Best Trap Speed 128.24 Mph
Best 0-60 3.6 sec
Best 30-50 1.24 sec
Best 50-70 1.22 sec
Best 60-130 7.9 sec
Best 0-100 7.9 sec

Kevin’s programming is unreal. I jumped almost 6 mph over my previous attempts running with a tame file he wrote for my wife. Tame is a relative word because it still boosted 1.3 bars and ran 122mph and this all out file was only 1.2 bars. The key is the torque in the programming. My wife’s file was not optimized for torque values, for obvious reasons. When I installed this setup and got it running, I was stunned with the performance. Never did I think there was significantly more power left on the table. Kevin claimed with upgraded wastegate springs and proper tuning to take advantage of them I could realize a 20% increase in mid range torque. Yeah sure! I did the springs anyway because they provide more consistent boost control, but I felt 20 percent more torque was unlikely. Heck it was running 0-60 in 3.7, 50-70 in 1.4, and 30-50 in 1.4. How much more could there be? Well, lots as a matter of fact. Kevin warned me that adjusting wastegates is not for the impatient. Lots of minor tweaking and a few FedEx shipments between MI and WA with my Pocket Programmer ensued. I got the gates adjusted perfectly the first time and Kevin wrote the file perfectly the first time as well. No TB shutdowns or other issues at all. He also wrote a few other lower performance files as well to make it a grand total of eight in the PP. He was not going to charge for the custom 128+Mph screamer file at all. I suggested that it was only fair, given the time put into these files that I pay something. He agreed, which is great because otherwise I would have had to send him a Christmas present and that would be awkward!
The quarter times were straightforward. The ET went down marginally, but trap was way up. I never had wheel hop issues before. Now I have serious issues with wheelhop. Once it got out of the box it ripped down the track. I had 4 11.7’s in a row around 126-127 mph. 60ft times were terrible, no better than 1.9, but I wasn’t willing to beat on the car for the extra tenths.
0-60 and 0-100 times were pulled out of the Racelogic GPS data stream at the track.
I must say I am very happy with the 60-130 times. To put in perspective just how much kick in the mid range this programming and turbos have consider this: To get my best times in the 60-130 I left the line gently in 1st and shifted at 40mph DIRECTLY to 3rd gear. This would make only the 3-4 shift needed in the 60-130 range. In 3rd gear, I would have full 1.2 bars around 50-52 mph and would cross the 60 mph threshold with a full head of steam and a quick 3-4 shift and 7.9 sec was the result. The 7.9 was great but the time slip of 13.4 still had a trap of 125+ mph with NO second gear!!!
All that is left to do is get the Tshirt and the Dyno sheet. Dyno is set for Mon the 18th and the results will be posted shortly therafter. Any guesses to HP given these performances numbers? Just like the Price is Right…closest without going over wins.
I hope this has been an informative read for those who followed from the install, breakin, and finally the hard numbers. I just hope that anyone who is going to spend their dollars on any tuner do their research, make the calls and ask the right questions. In the end, I found a tuner who makes his own turbos and writes programming files specifically for my setup. Sub 8 second 60-130 and 128+ mph in the quarter mile is quite the value when one considers I am not even close to 5 figures spent with this setup. Kevin M: Well done my friend! Markski, thanks for all the info as well. Kevin G

Congrats... I have his turbos as well... good stuff...

Although... I was supposed to get some new programming...but I guess he's too busy working on other projects....

Kev...if you're reading this... what's up with my program brotha?!?!?;)

Excellent write up and thanks for sharing the numbers. The car seems to be very strong, considering this is not a wild 1.5 bar setup. Performance at these boost levels goes way beyond the quartermile distance, congrats both Kevins.

Is there any way you could fix the scale on your graph? i.e. the 60-130mph run starting at 60mph instead of 0? It gives a better perspective.

Kevin M, do you have more aggressive setups for someone who has Carillos already?

Cheers

DOO ITT, then give it to me for the same price hilarious :p jk

KPG man, amazing writeup and impressions, especially runs! 11.7 at 128mph with a 1.9 60' is great, wow. 60-130 in 7.9 is equally impressive too, CGT's have been tested within that range!

Thanks for the info, congrats and be safe :)

jean, I would be happy to share any source data or individual data points with you. I am not sure what you are asking. The graphs do start from 60-130. Do you want more data points within the 60-130 scale? Let me know exactly what you are looking for. Thanks, Kevin
