Exhaust countdown
Andrewgavi here, I have narraowed my exhaust choices down based on my criteria for the baddest-*** sounding exhaust for my 996TT
1.Fabspeed straight pipes
2.Europipe stage 2 loud
3.Techart racing version exhaust
I would enjoy it if any have personal experiences with any of them. I know that a few have europipe and techart. All I am concerned about is whether there is any interior resonance, I do alot of cruising on the highway and at night, so it is imparitive that it doesn't have it.

Chad knows... I agree. I have a Europipe stage II quiet.
No resonance at all, personal emails unsolicited, from
Europipe to see how I was liking the product, and it
gives the same power as their loud one. Perfect for
the real world. Loud is fun for 15 minutes then it's an
irritant. Quiet lets you listen to the stereo without having
to turn it up to drown out the noise.

I have to agree with that...
even though personally I've never heard a Quiet b4... but the Loud is a bit loud when you first hear it... but after a while I got used to it... it's not that loud to me anymore...
but it's definetely quiet compared to fabspeed and techart...
TechArt is so loud... that when I cruise with EM 996... I can't hear my own exhaust... hahahaha... and so as fabspeed on Fred's car...
I'd go with Europipe Loud, b/c it's not really that loud... and it sounds mean...
after having it for a while.. I was thinking about having it a bit more louder.. haha...

Exhaust sound is pretty subjective and a personal choice.
The Fabspeed Loud is very, very, very VERY loud. It also has quite a bit of resonance. (Did I say it was very loud?
)
From the cockpit, the EP Loud is much quieter than any of the Fabspeed systems and seems to have much less resonance to me.
I've never heard the Techart system.
Did I mention that the Fabspeed Loud is extremely loud?

Who needs to hear a stereo anyways??? It only interfere's with properly hearing engine revs, resulting in diminished performance driving....

Luting, I know that Em 996 has a techart on his, is it a nice sound or just like a nascar with no cats? Also do you know if EM 996's resonates? Your europipe stage 2 loud does it resonate?

it's really nice sound... but I'm pretty sure that his exhaust is much louder than I am... simply up to Fabspeed's level...
I've never sat in it...but he can certainly answer that question for u...
Endra here u go
but when driving through the tunnel, when he rev up his engine...
all I can say is that it's so damn loud... that I can't hear my own exhaust sound at all...not even a bit... hahaha
I guess that's pretty loud...^_^
ur best hit will be europipe if you want a quieter exhaust...
I personally think Europipe II loud suits ur...
b/c it's not that loud, and the sound is enjoyable... ^^
it may sound a bit louder at the beginning but it's the sound of joy from ur car...haha

Just my $0.02. But, all 996TTs have some amount of that low RPM resonance between 2000 - 2800 RPM. I can even hear it with the stock system. So, I think it's really a matter of degree.
With most systems (I've tried 5), the resonance seems to be proportional to the sound volume in the cockpit. So, exhaust systems that produce more dbs in the cockpit at high rpm, also produce more low RPM resonance.
The one exception in my experience was the Fabspeed Sport without cones. It actually seems to produce proportionately more resonance at the bottom end. Once the cones were installed, however, the resonance seemed to be proportional to overall cockpit dbs.
So, in short, if you look at Stephen's exhaust comparo powerpoint presentation and compare the dbs in the cockpit for each system he tested, that will give you a pretty good idea of which exhaust systems have the most resonance inside the car. It seemed to be accurate for the systems that I've tried - except for one (the stock system). For some reason in Stephen's test the stock exhaust gave strangely high readings inside the car that, to me, don't quite agree with what my ears are telling me.

Lusting is right with regard to the EP loud. It's not loud in the cockpit. I think it may be somewhat loud from outside the car though. Stephen's tests showed that the EP loud was the second quietest inside the car, but somewhat loud (somewhere in the top half of the pack as I recall) from outside of the car.
I just read the exhaust review by Stephen and it appears as though the europipe stage II loud wins in everything except (50)hp and weight. The interior db are lower than fabspeed loud, but higher outside at every mark (idle, 3k, WOT), that is what you want is to know that outside it is being heard and inside it is not making too much resonance.
The 50 HP difference is peak HP compared to a Fabspeed loud with no cats. That's not a very meaningful comparison, and it's not exactly apples-to-apples.
I would compare area under the curve (which translates directly into accelaration) for two systems with cats. That's a much more real world, and apples-to-apples comparison.
Area under the curve is reasonably approximated by Stephen's average HP and average torque tables. Average torque is the most important of the two tables as it is torque that produces acceleration. (Peak HP you can think of as loosely translating into top speed potential.)
Area under the curve is most important because it is the torque produced throughout the RPM band that determines acceleration (holding other factors like weight, traction, etc constant). Peak HP by itself doesn't mean a whole lot...
