Engine issues from chipping

Due to the number of people that have had mods in this forum, I would like to know how many have had issues were they had problems (bent a rod, etc.) when running at enhanced boost/rpm levels on stock internals. I'm talking about people who run at or below GT700 level. I'm sure there is some work required for higher HP but I've only heard good things about the mods so wanted to do a sanity check.

If you feel better sending a response via PM, please do so and I will keep individual responses confidential.

no problems.... looks like 650 rwhp is the safety ceiling... but I suggest not running over 600 rwhp. the other problem is boost levels and gas ... one should not run a 700 hp TT on pimp gas at 1.5 bars.... I think that's a bad idea....

So I guess good 'insurance' for someone with a modded car is to mix in some higher octane fuel when planning to run hard? Are there any consequences to running higher octane fuel (or mixing it in ) except for the additional cost?

Race gas is a great insurance plan. That is why I decided against a race file... there was little room for error when you are running a file programmed for high octane. I just run my 1.25+ bar street file with a couple of gallons of 100 at the strip. Cheap Insurance. Kevin

It looks like several cars here have definitely been to the strip where the car undergoes hard acceleration for around 11 seconds, but are there any people on this forum that track their modified 996TTs? I'm curious how the cars hold up under, say 20-30 minutes of enthusiastic driving.

Any issues with the stock brakes having to slow a car down with 25-50% more horsepower?

I have over 600+ miles at Gingerman raceway this year... I do that a whole lot more than going to the drags. I run straight 100 at the track, and yes brake pads and rotors will get used up. My rotors are all spiderweb cracking and I have gone thru a set of Pagid Oranges this season as well. This car has run more hard 20 min sessions that i can even count. Set it up properly for the track, use some common sense and it will last a long time. Dragstrips are fun but nothing beats a good roadcourse. Kevin

these cars come significantly "detuned". Mild/moderate upgrades bring the car up to its true potential. I think an ECU flash, and an exhaust change is the very least that should be done to get the car to where it should be.
At that level you will not have any internal damage even if you run the car at the track all day everyday. (and I try too) I have run this car HARD for up to 60 minutes 4 and 5 times a day for up to three days and no problem. The only reason I have to come off the track is cause I'm out of gas!
The stock brakes are fine if you run pagid orange pad, castrol SRF fluid, and add GT3 cup brake ducts. Flush the brakes before each event and have at least 50% of pad life before the event.

I had 88K miles all running hard at 1.2 to 1.35 bars b4 I tore down the motor for rebuild... no problems...

As a follow-up to CMALANA's original question, has anyone had problems with CELs with just the basic ECU flash? I recall reading about some issues with Upsolute, but has anyone with GIAC had any problems with just the flash?

Thanks for the info. I ran a 993TT for 3 years pretty hard on the track (about 20k track miles!) and the only thing it needed was a new clutch. It was bone stock though.

Do you run regular 93 octane gas, or do you up the octane at the track for additional 'insurance'? Also, your x50 is stock right? Have you tried Pagid Yellow and how does that compare to Orange?

Castrol SRF is definitely in the horizon for each event (and even for street). Anyone know where to get GT3 cup brake ducts at a good price?
