Are prices on GT2's comming down?
 

I have noticed that several GT2's that have come onto the market recently are very reasonably priced (low mileage 2002's for 100-110K).

I wonder if there is a trend here or just a couple of lower priced aberrations?

I ask because I am in the process of purchasing a GT2.

Opinions are welcome.

I feel like the prices are falling. I started shopping for a GT2 in June of '05 and prices were in the $120-140K range, with some even as high as $160. By June of this year, the prices were in the $120's with a few in the high 'teens. Now I see GT2's all the time in the $100-110K range.

IMO, I think they're about at the bottom right now. I can't imagine them dipping into the $85-90K price range any time soon. It's probably a good time to buy one.

Regardless, unless you plan on selling it, who care's what it cost in the first place?

When shopping for a GT2, I would allow $10,000-15,000 "swing"

and get the car/color combo that YOU want. Price is secondary with

this particular model.

Agreed, im finding some amazing deals and GT2 on the market, it is a great time to sell, i just hope they retain their value from now on!

A local dealer has a 2002 w/ 15K miles for 104K...not as good as what I am getting, but a seemingly very fair price...of course this is the time of year to get rid of a "Widowmaker".

Being a car dealer(Toyota) you have to understand that all cars with RARE exception will lose value over time. The fact that these cars have come down is a reflection of the fact they are now older then they were. I also believe the 997TT has had a affect on pricing as well.

Going forward I think these GT-2s will do well but it will take quite a few years for that to happen. Right now they are even less desirable (to most buyers not alot of us here) than 996 Turbos and just used cars. The future will look very kindly on unmolested examples b/c of what they are and how few were produced. Just look at any older limited-production
porsche for an example.

A $100k GT2 is probably one of the best bangs for the buck out there right now. These cars will come back up.

The fact that the car I am getting has 600 whp will probably hurt its resale value....I would have to find EXACTLY the right buyer...someone who has always dreamt of a monster/ultimate supercar.....wait a minute...that person is me....lol

Fortunately, I am going to drive this car around 8K miles a year, and I plan on keeping it for a long time....at least 4-6 years. I would just hate it if the prices came down dramatically, say when the 997 GT2 came out.

Yes, the GT2 value is dropping like rain...... I agree that any GT2 that has been heavily modded or driven with alot of miles will not bounce back and will only continue to drop fast.......

In my recent search for a 996TT, I came across an 02 GT2 black/black with 40k miles on it. This is more miles than I was considering for a TT, but this is a GT2, and it really excites me more than just a turbo. It's clean, too.
I have not really been considering a GT2 because of the higher price, and I am looking for a daily driver. I am not sure if this would be practical as a daily driver, but it is so cool. Although I do have other vehicles, I drive my 996 cab daily, and that is what I would be replacing.
I think I would prefer the heated, full power sport seats over the non-adjustable racing seats, although maybe I could get used to them or swap them out. Other than that I see nothing wrong with it, although I don't think I need a rollbar, either.
What do you guys think this car is really worth with 40,000 miles? Would I kill the value even more by driving it regularly?
Is a GT2 too hardcore for the street, and should I just keep looking for a lower mileage TT instead?

If you buy a GT2 with 40K miles, it might as well be driven daily, as it will have no "value" long term, as people are looking for low milage. That being said there is nothing wrong with a 40K mile GT2, so long as you have it checked out. It has simply been driven and enjoyed.

As far as pricing goes I would not pay more that $70K for it, as I think it should get a small premium (maybe $10K) over a 996 TT with similar milage, which would likely be in the mid to high $50K range.

If you do buy the GT2 you will not regret it, but given the miles it has it will sold strictly on price when you go to sell it, so you need to take that into consideration.

I disagree. I don't think we will ever see GT2's into the $70's regardless of mileage. There are not enough of them around to be compared to the TT's in pricing either. $10k over a 996TT with similar mileage? hilarious I would love to see some $65-$90k GT2's.
