996 Tt 2001

I am new to this site and looking for some advise. I am seriously looking at a 2001 996 TT, 40K miles, 6 speed, some records through car fax. Can you tell me of any systemic issues with these cars? I did notice the shifter is a bit sloppy and it popped out of 2nd while coming to a stop on the test drive. What is the fix for this? Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure the car is under warranty, otherwise that second gear pop out is a pretty hefty fix.

Thanks. Is it something in the gearbox or the linkage?

There is a lot of info on this issue on the forum. The short answer is a trans replacement is in the car's future. I have read of one trans being pulled apart to diagnose the failure but the majority I read about were replaced by Porsche under warranty or a big price tag for the owner. It is more than likely not a simple adjustment, but I would have the car PPI'ed by a professional Porsche mechanic before proceeding. Good Luck

There's lots of good info in the sticky post above about the 2nd gear popout issue. Sounds like $10g's or so to fix, so unless the car is a steal or the owner will replace the tranny before the sale I would run. Look in the For Sale section, lots of nice TT's for sale at great prices.

This man said it best, very expensive fix that gets worse over time, i wouldnt look twice at it unless it had a FULL extended warranty and was fixed under that warranty before you bought it.

Goodluck

Thanks for the great feedback. When I talk with this dealer I'll mention this and see what he comes back with. I'll more than likely pass on the deal, which is $57K.

That is a great deal, but hypothetically speaking if you had to come out of pocket to fix that and god knows, it might just pay to get a headache free CPO car no?

Sanoval's car is very nice, I think it is a steal for the price. Check it out for sure!
