Help: Glovebox door won't latch

The glovebox door in my 02 will not latch.
The latching pins do not extend.
Could this be a lubrication issue?
Or is there another easy DIY fix for this to avoid a trip to the dealer?

I don't know what the fix is but I suspect you may have to look at the locking mechanism. I just replaced the glovebox handle which involves removing the box itself (not hard, unclip the struts, top inner screws (torx screwdriver) and 3 screws underneath in the footwell).
