Dip in HP/TQ on my Dyno (X50 w/ GIAC/Evo)

The car is an X50. With a Europipe only on a pretty cold day, it dyno'd 433WHP and 455TQ. I have since flashed the car and added the Evo wastegate kit. Today, I redyno'd. It was warmer, but the results are still not what I expected. The best run was 459WHP and 510TQ. The torque gain is inline with expectations, but the WHP has only gone up by 26. There is a dip in HP/TQ from about 4200-4600 RPM now.

My concern is that the Evo wastegate actuators are not tuned correctly. They were not pre-set with a pressure tester rig before installation, but were supposedly tuned after installation and driving. If they are set wrong and the car is making too much boost, could that be the culprit for the power dip? I have driven the car flashed for a while, but only had the wastegate kit on for a week. From what I've seen by watching the boost guage, there doesn't appear to be any wild spikes.

Any ideas? Yank the evo actuators and test them with a pressure tester? Put the stock ones back in?

X50 + Europipe (No flash or wastegate mods)

Who did your wastegate kit? Have they done them on another car before yours?

Have not checked the plugs. Would fouled plug(s) cause that kind of symptom?

The guys who did the wastegate install had not done one before, but they are an Evo dealer.

I was there and watched somebody that had done about 30 of these kits install them on my buddies Turbo. He stated that if they were not done exactly right and the exact same on each side, the car would not run right. He also said that he would no have somebody who had never done it before do it on his own car. It looked like a pretty precise project. You might want to look into this.

That was my fear, too. Did he calibrate them with a pressure tester before installation, if you remember? It's a no-brainer to do the actual installation, it's the calibration that's the trick

even if u dont do the pressure calibration..... u can somewhat guess by counting the amount of turns on the nut.... or even measure the rod from the tip to the first nut in (mm).

I actually think ur throttle body is shutting down... maybe ur hitting 1.3 bars of boost and the car is pulling timing/closing the TB...

He has done enough that he did not need to do that. He did it like Markski is saying by the turns on the nut.

Wouldn't the TB shutting down throw some codes Mark?

no it will not. ask what boost was he hitting in 4th on the dyno.... anything remotely close to 1.3 bars will cause the TB to closed and or timing to be pulled. happened to me many times b4.

take the car out and run it in 4th from 4K to 6500 rpms and see what happens... the car might even go into limp mode if u stay in it long enough.
NOTE: if it didnt happen b4 the WG switch then the problem must be the preset of the new WGs...

So, maybe they don't only have them calibrated wrong, they might actually have them turned up too high?

Is there some measurement (in mm) from the rod to the tip of the nut that is "correct"? Man, that is a dirty sounding question.

I distinctly remember seeing 1.3 flash up on the boost gauge during the one pull that I did watch (4th gear). So perhaps you are correct, Markski. I'll take it for a drive later tonight - what should I be looking for from 4k to 6.5k?

Unfortunately I don't have a dyno with just Flash and no wastegates. But the only changes to the car since it was dyno'd last are the flash, the wastegates and a few months of driving. So the most likely suspect are the wastegates.

And yeah, I'm thinking they might have them cranked too high (too much boost). If the TB shuts down when boost is 1.3 or higher, then this definitely could be the problem. I have seen 1.3 this weekend when driving around, and did see it on the dyno.

I just changed mine out (wastgates) and they should be set with a pressure tester. very easy to do. low pressure regulator and a good low pressure guage 0-15 or 0-20 psi they must be done on the turbos. at 12 psi they should begun to crack open adjust them evenly.

Nash,
when u pull it in 4th stay in it full throttle and see if it stays at 1.3 bars.... if it does then thats probably ur problem. Giac flash does not allow u to go past 1.3 bars on ur kit. they turn it off in the GT 640 and up kits.
u may need a half a turn down on ur rod or so.
Once set up correctly it works good.

I remember that on the dyno it hit 1.3 and then dialed back to 1.1 quickly. I will drive it some tonight to test.
