Exclamation Ported Exhausted Manifold!

Just wanted to show pictures of a ported 996 exhaust manifold that we did here in house. The welds were also redone on the outer flange. Hoping to get some gains over previous numbers. We were also doing some testing on intakes and exhausts. I'll update with results in future posts.

That's all fine and dandy, but what's up with all the imperfections in the tubes! I know you can't get them out without possibly popping through, but what the hell did they look like before you got to them?!?!

just remember, the tiniest hole, and BOOM you just lost all your power and then sound like a schoolbus. When switching from stock, go with what has been tested. Even GHL has had problems with one of their designs. Good idea on the overweld. I would like to know the flow diff between stock and ported stock. Then ceramic coat over the ported and settle once and for all what means anything.

I can tell you by what I see, you did not do it correctly. By removing certain metal on the top lip like you did you induce what they call sound harmonics (sound waves) back into the valve train. Having a certain ledge at this point helps power.

Well, cjv, we are currently testing the porting on the manifold, as oppose to the rough welds when it comes stock. We deal with high horsepower vehicles on the daily. If this proves to make some power, we're just looking to show 996 owners easy ways to gain power at minimum costs. If we're wrong, then we learned something new as well as if it did gain power. Check us out, we've been around and now are currently testing 996's.

I have some pix somewhere of the ones that Kevin did for the shoot out. He had to spend an immense amount of time (I'll let him fill you in) and man hours so the process, whilst cheap in one sense isn't really because it's very labor intensive to get it just right aka no imperfections in the tube and collector.

What I am refering to is known by people who port heads. If you have a matching port the waves go out the heads and down the exhaust. The waves reverberate back and will go back up throught the valves and combustion chamber. By having a slight ledge/lid on the upper side of the head, the sound waves hit the ledge and deflect back out the header. The two sides and bottom can match. A Graham Bell explains this much better in his book.

I am not sure what you would see between stock and match port like you are doing. However, if you did one like I explained and a match port, you would see what I am trying to explain to you.

I too am glad to see one of the top import tuners in the U.S. start to R&D our cars. SP Engineering builds amazing cars. They had a hand in my ex Supra, and their products and workmanship is top notch. Looking forward to what you guys will do next.
