Low mileage '01 or higher mileage '03

I'm looking to buy a 996tt within 6 months, what do you guys think about a low milage '01 vs higher milage '03?

They seem to be similar price so I was wondering how many of you would prefer lower milage as opposed to later model year?

I bought a 9800 mile 01, so I vote lower miles. The 01 is a bit better optioned as well.

996TT: Lower mileage '01 or high mileage '03?

Interesting question. The 996TT has been moderately reliable. I would probably go for the '03. Keep $10k around to replace the transmission when it fails ....

generally I would chose a lower milage car, but it seems that a newer car is appealing because of warrentee and just because it is a newer model. I know these cars are pretty reliable so it also makes me think that the '01 is not a bad deal, also some have pointed out that the '01 are lighter, whatever that maybe worth. I'm planning to drive the car daily and possibly track the car. Would that change anyone's mind?

My vote is for the '03 for the following reasons: #1) it already has the clear sidemarker lights so you save $30! ; #2) after '01 the spark plugs were updated to FR6's, although after 30k miles it's time for new ones if not already done, and the boost hoses were a bit improved; #3) even though not a great system, I like having the Nav; #4) very arguable, but 1.5k miles per year depending on how regularly versus 15 100 mile drives per year may not be enough to keep engine compenents and such from drying out.

Either way, a PPI is a must.

Lower mileage car always holds more value.

33K miles is not that bad if u can keep it low but what if it got over 50K in 1-2 years and the car will not worth much money. Check the price for Turbo that over 50K miles and u know what i'm talking about.

Just hold off and wait to find an '03 with <20k miles and a warranty.

I would go the 01 all the way, bargain the price down a little and use the year of the car as a bargaining chip. Probably take a limited warranty out on the car, 3rd party and maybe take it down to Porsche dealership and ask them to replace some hoses and parts that you are concerned with.

Then I would buy some sick Gt2 style champion wheels i have seen here on the classified and probably get that monster chipped up. Take it over to best buy and get a newer style gps-nav and dvd player all in one put in that din slot and you got a extremly nice, fast as ***** clean as heck looking 996tt...Game over in my mind..

GOod luck i am in your same boat but looking to spend less. I live here in FL also and cannot believe they have those cars over in Stuart.
There are some extremely knowlegeable people around these boards and if things go haywire on that car which in my opinion they wont--you will be in great hands.
