996 carbon fiber hood

Hello All:

I'm new to the forum but needless to say a porsche fan. Would anyone know where I can get a really nice carbon fiber hood for a 996. I want an exposed weave clear coat job that I would not need to paint or finish. I have bought items from MA Shaw before, and need a higher quailty product. I saw stuff on line from VIS, Siebon, Deft racing - any idea as to the qaulity.

Any help appreciated.

On another note - I've got front 996 turbo front brake pads for the 4 piston calipers in Pagid (Orange), Porterfield, and Performance Friction for sale cheap if anyone is interested.

Thanks!

welcome! I see your close by...come out to one of the meets one of these days!

I don't know anything about the Porsche hoods in CF from all the companies above but I do know that one company that I used to work with because of my M3 that will be coming out with some high end CF stuff for the 997 and 996 within the next 3-4 months...it is worth waiting for.

Thanks - Let me know when you have the info. I'll try to attend some of the events - I also have the H50 V-10/E90 that some BMW owners might like to see up close.

I purchased a CF hood for my VR4 , but passed on getting one for my 996tt, thinking that the lighter weight upfront would upset the car's delicate balance.

I know a guy who makes one-offs. The 996 hood is one that he's done before, but what's the overall advantage of a CF front if you don't lighten up the rear, considering the P cars' sensitive balance?

Frank,

Here's the 996 link to the guy that designed my hood for the VR4: http://deftracing.com/carbon_fiber_h..._911_(996).htm

That's what corner-balancing is for.

I have one. Seems ok so far, though I haven't had it long enough to evaluate color stability under prolonged sunlight. Weave is tight, though not 100% straight and regular (none are, IMHO). Color is even across entire hood. Gel coat is flat and without blemishes or swirls. Edges are rolled under, but can be polished better. It's too light for the stock hood lifters, but the GT3 CF hood lifters work well. One of the bolts included with the purchase was the wrong size, but I think they corrected it.
