New Turbos.. holy sh*t..

Hey guys,

Might need your help/input on this. Picked up my car today and got on it twice (that was enough for now lol) and boost held 1.5bar. That's just nuts and up from .09/1.0bar as it used to be with the stock turbos, chip, straight pipes. My straight pipes are obviously benefitting the new turbos a lot more than the stockers but what the heck lol, my software is the same as it was before and how on earth it goes from .9/1.0 to 1.5 with these new babies... I know our ECUs are adaptive but ****. This obviously can't be safe so for the meantime until I log some data I'm goin to strictly run 100 octane. I figure the ECU is smart enough to pull timing if it senses knock or gets lean, but I'm still scared. I was planning on logging some AFR data and then send my ECU off to get worked on. That was the plan, to up the boost from 1.0bar to 1.2 or something...

PS CJV, if you're free tomorrow sometime, I can show you the data logger but I have some questions for you and maybe you can take a ride/drive and see what you think is going on. I'm just scared that it's holding 1.5bar. I know it's the stock gauge and so it's probably off but I figured the throttle body closed at 1.4 bar?

PPS Everyone at Porsche that has seen the Turbos that Kevin made has said they are awesome So well done man.

Yeah no kidding pal. I'm VERY impressed with the turbos and a 'lil concerned until I get retuned for this stuff. Just not going to drive it.. I'll send off my ECU and see what they can do. However, I do want to log some data before I do that..

Ruiner - what is this data logger called??
I was going to get the Carchip EX but would prefer something that downloads to my m515 so I can do everything while in the car...

MSINDI, the Carchip EX is alright/useful but it's not truly wideband and hence samples once every five seconds. My car does 0-60 in like 3.2 seconds so the samples are pretty useless... Try using the stuff David VA (he has the URL I don't remember it off hand) and I have or what Ruiner has.

I'm going to stay with upsolute. I just want to finish what I started first Sigh.. I've just been spending so much recently, I think I'll hold off for now. The main reason I wanted the GIAC was the switchable stuff... Good luck.

When are you going to get the car retuned and who is going to do it? Other than boost do you notice a huge difference?

Hey Duane,

I've driven in a friend's Turbo hat had Kevin's GT1 Hybrid's and the difference between my set up and his is astonishing.... Just be warned, I don't know if our cars can take this kind of abuse. Certainly not as a daily driver... The new billet stuff that Kevin has from KKK is amazing.

I take it your ECU has not been reprogrammed

and you were not expected or supposed to have an increase in boost to 1.5 Bar?

FYI, I had this happen with my totally stock 996 TT and the trouble was a loose vacuum hose, I believe on one of the diverter valves that my dealer had just replaced under warranty.

BTW it did not take too long before the car started to cut the power automatically--although the boost guage continued to register between 1.3 - 1.5 Bar, the car accelerated like it had no boost whatsover.

You may want to make sure that something did not go wrong in the installation of all your "goodies".

Well anything is possible, I agree. But if I mash the throttle is hits 1.5bar and stays there. Doesnt' drop... I know these new kkk goodies are supposed to be capable of doing this. The bigger waste gate was also adjusted to a max of .5bar... I do want to make sure everying is right tho so thanks for the concern
