Looks like I'm lucky #2
Just had the car checked out by Newport Beach Porsche and they informed me that I have a RMS leak. This will be the second one. A new clutch went in less than 10k miles ago. :(
The tech said there is an updated seal available. I tried the no-RMS-dance before i start the car everytime. You guys think i should have done the robot after i do the skip and a clap? or is it clap, clap, then the macarena? |
Did you have to get another clutch?
|
How do you know if your RMS or clutch needs replacement? Thanks..
|
Oh boy that's bad news. What is it with these seals that makes some fail and others not ?
Is it the amount of miles driven, or lack thereof ? |
When clutch is replaced, typically RMS is replaced also (the labor is the same)...or vice versa.
don't think its the lack of miles driven in this case. car always had steady miles over the years, even from previous owner. |
Also..not a drop of oil was found on my garage floor, and my oil level has always been steady. Def kind of stealth in this case...
|
it should be covered under the 2 years parts and labor warranty from your clutch job if u did it at a porsche stealership. BTW i'm on my 4th RMS.
|
So they replaced it with the old model seal? I bought my car and 2 owners before me the guy had the RMS replaced with the same crappy one. Then the previous owner had the good updated one put in about 6k miles ago
|
Why did you take the car in? What did you get done on it? Are you under warranty?
|
update - the RMS was replaced last year in March with the updated seal.
the leak this time is at RMS again. the Tech said the engine spec checked out fine. no leak from IMS. the RMS seems like it was not seated properly. It was done at a different Porsche dealership so they can't comment if/if not it was installed incorrectly, they can only state that the seal was not seated properly. |
edit - it was all done under warranty, got a discount on oil change too! :)
|
I hear that alot of these repeated rms leaks are from improper installation of the new seal...
