PCA and driver's ed

Hello to everyone,
I have recently purchase a 2002 C4S and could use a lesson or two to learn the limitations of this outstanding car. I have taken it through some turns faster than any other car I have been in or driven and feel that I could easily over estimate my ability to stay out of trouble. Are there any members of the Porsche Club of America on this forum? Does anyone have any experience with the PCA driver's ed events? Also is the PCA worth joining if you do not plan on having a lot of track days? Thanks so much for any and all responses, Doug

PCA DE events are excellent. There are a lot of seasoned drivers in PCA and they really make the day(s) enjoyable. Here in SoCal we have a DE every quarter and it fills up the first day of registration. The cost doesn't reflect the value. If you don't plan on tracking the car they should be able to address all your driving needs.

PCA membership gets you Panorama which is excellent reading and has lots of information. They have a lot of social things that might interest you in your region.

My advice is to attend a PDE (Porsche Driving Experience) put on by Porsche. It's an expensive 2 day event but you will really learn the limitations of your car/yourself and come away with a lot of driving skills you never thought of.
I did it just for the same reasons that you voice.

The local PCA chapters put on a good number of events aside from DE's. There's the standard social event, driving tour, concours, tech sessions, autocross's, etc. You get to meet allot of very nice people who share with you a love for Porsche's.

Thanks for your responses. It sounds like either the PCA DE's or the Porsche Driving Experience would be a good choice. I am going to be doing one of them and/or maybe both over time. Doug
