PSS9's vs. PSS10's, Opinions?

After almost 8 years and 48,000 miles the shocks on my 2000 C4 Cab are getting pretty bad, ride just isn't what it used to be. Recently one of the rear shocks started leaking so now it is time for an upgrade. I had been considering a set of PSS9's for some time now. Until the release of the PSS10's the best prcing I had seen on PSS('s for a C4 was about $1,800 + shipping. Now I can get a set for less than $1,700, delivered. However, the Tirerack has a set of the PSS10's for a C4 for just over $2,300 delivered. So about a $600 difference. the question is, is it worth it to pay the extra for the PSS10's. One more setting, easier to adjust, and a more linear progression on the settings are the major differences.

So are their any opinions out there ( I know there is usually a derth of opinions around here)?

look around you can get the pss10s closer to $2000, that may make your decision easier!

While the Pss9 have a great reputation with the 996 and 6speed, I'd always opt for the 6-7 year newer version of a shock

Where did you see them for 2000?

The only real difference from what I understand is cosmetic and that adjusting dampning is now linear with each click.

To me not worth the price difference.I would go pss9's.

If you are planning on keeping your pcar for a long time I'd go with KWv3's - JMHO.
More $ but more adjustability features and better ride.

No matter what you get it will be a huge improvement and you will be quite pleased. Good luck with the upgrade and post pics!

If I can get the PSS10"s for $2000, that would be attractive. But the best price I have seen for them is the $2,300+. Where did you see them for $2,000?

guys, i was given a quote for $2085 shipped too my door in Canada, by Mike at AWE, so i assume that you guys should be close to $2K, keep in mind that this was last Nov!
i didn't order since they only ship with UPS and i was going to get bent over with duty and brokerage, so i have no actual experience with AWE, simply a quote.

Spend more in the beginning and save yourself the headache, unless if you feel like it totally isn't worth the extra investment.

AWE is at $2,650 for the PSS10's. Talked to him today.

Anyone know if the Damptronic is available from Bilstein Yet for the C2?? or the C4...those are the ones to get....

TireRack was the best price I could find online but there was a shop that said they would beat any advertised price

I called and they offered better than TireRack, I think it was like 2300 shipped. I saved the contact info: 1-800-579-7046 STEPHEN

I still think 2300 is too much given that theres not much difference over the pss9's. If it were under 2000 I might consider it , but when you can get pss9's for $1600 thats a big savings.

On a side note: does anyone remember when pss9's were cheap! Overnight they changed the list price from like 800 to 1500 for the car I had and there was no change to the product. I guess you can do that if you have a product people want.

tirerack is at $2057 for a 996 c2 and my shipping was $27.00.

911Joel May 14, 2008 09:59 AM

The price I mentioned was for a C4.

So actually looking at the pictures of the pss10's for the 996, it does appear there are more changes. Looks like they changed the rear spring and added a helper spring.

Im still not sure if I can justify a $2300 price tag over the cost over the psss9's.

I really want to upgrade the suspension but Im on the fence of waiting to find a better deal on the pss10's or get the cheaper pss9's or go a different route all together.

Pony up and don't look back

Benjamin Choi May 14, 2008 01:45 PM

honestly i'd rather get kw3s than the pss10s.

suspension tuning is black magic guys. more adjustability doesn't mean better if u don't know wtf your'e doing, what u want out of them.

i've set my pss9s once and never wanted to adjust them, but then i'm not the type of guy who fuqs around with his cars that much. i just drive them and enjoy it. not much of a tinkering type.
