Lets discuss audio for 996's
I've heard Focals in the 996 and they sound great! What is everyone else opinion on after market speakers/brands??
|
i have the focals all over and also have like 4 6" JBL subs behind the rear seat that you cannot see, but can hear/feel.
alpine deck, and two apline pdx amps to power everything. clandestine install, but big on oompf. i'm not a big audio guy. i just like to hear music. |
Ben, please post pics! How did you get FOUR subs on the floor?
|
I just completed phase 1 of my audio install.
I have a Bose system in my 03 cab, and it was a real pain to deal with. I replaced the head unit with an Alpine IDA-x100 (highly recommended if you want to use an iPod). The deck is pretty easy to install yourself. This drives the stock rear directly from the deck. Then, I have an RCA from the Sub out and from the Front Speaker out to the trunk in the front. In the trunk is an Alpine MRP-f300 amp, 50w x 4channels. 2 channels are for the fronts and the rear 2 are bridged to a subwoofer. I have Focal 6.5" access line components (the cheapest ones, but still awesome sounding), with the tweeter in the stock dash location. The midbass woofers were mounted into an MDF panel that replaces the stock Bose speaker enclosure, and sealed with dynamat. They sound GREAT and are easily audible with the top down on the freeway, which is what I really wanted. For now, I've run the rear speakers to the stock Bose sub. For a 4x6, I'm astounded at how much bass it puts out... but it's definitely not great. It sounds ok for now, but Phase 2 will definitely be some sort of subwoofer. Easiest thing to do is a footwell sub, most shops can build a box pretty cheap. |

Curious why you went with JBL over JL Audo 6w3s? (or did you just typo? :) |
kitw, it was a typo. I meant JLAs. :D good catch.
i think my shop recommended 4 sixes for spacing flexibility. . |
so you can put 6.5"'s in the dash and rear?
|
bro, i'm talking about dedicated subs powered by their own apline pdx amp and not the door speakers and the ones below the rear window which are powered by the other pdx.
threads like this are really tough to measure up because you gotta hear it to believe it. i must've spent close to $7K for my setup and i'm happy. i can't imagine going halfway to get really good sound. audio isn't cheap is what i've come to learn esp very clean setups where you can't even see the install pieces save for my amps in the trunk. i absolutely sacrificed 0 cabin space for my sound and i'm glad about that. the only thing exposed is the apline head unit. |

Not without a LOT of fabrication. Ben, as he stated, is talking about a box that goes on the rear shelf that contains 4 6.5" subwoofers. I spent $1000 so far on my setup. Pretty happy with it so far, but I installed the deck and wiring myself. I let the pros handle the mdf in the doors and the amp mounting. |
I trashed one of my Focal's and went ot the new BA's. I have built 200k home theaters and the one thing I know is music and audio quality. Check out the BA's or come listen to mine. The Focals are flat compared to these.

i have a compete REUS audio setup. decided for my p-car NOT to choose components and put them all together
all speakers oem speakers replace, mirror tweeters addition (makes the biggest difference in our cars, really ties the complete system together), 2 amps conceled in the front trunk, 2 10" subs in the rear and one 6" sub in the passanger foot well REUS makes good stuff and they defintely did their research with the p-car kit sounds pretty gooooood |

I'm looking to do some minor upgrades, but want to easily return to OE if needed. |
