04 996 C2 winter driving?
 

Getting a 04 996 C2 and thinking about DD in Michigan, even in some snow with winter tires.
Tired of owning two cars...

I don't know if it is a bad idea. I think the C4 will do fine in light snow. Because of the ride height, I would not want to rely on it for regular transportation in a Michigan winter.

i live in michigan and am planning to drive my 01 C4 during the winter. i've got winter tires for it (dunlop wintersport m2). if your C2 is standard ride height, it shouldn't be an issue. even folks in colorado drive their p-cars during the winter with winter wheels and tires.

With all due respect to those who say you can. I agree that you could probably get by for the most part, but I tried it and I have a C4 and it was a challenge. Can it be done? - Sure. But with the cheap jeeps (and other 4x4 suv's) out there right now, why risk your p-car on these salty, pot ridden roads?

for the sake of full disclosure, i don't drive a lot of miles. maybe 4k per year. so i don't expect to do a lot of winter driving either. i guess i'll report again in the spring when i've put a few winter miles on my C4.

You know you could add some lifts to get some extra clearance. I think 5-6" outta do it. :D

Or a small snow plow w/snow blower. Does Porsche make any?

I live in Finland and I know quite a few 996 owners that drive their cars in the winter. Not a problem at all. However, there are two things to be taken into account:

- It is easy to break the lip of the front bumper on chunks of ice because 996 is lower than other cars.

- It is easy to loose control of your car if you drive with your cruise control on. Most C2 (older) dont have traction control (or esp) to prevent the rear wheels from skidding and car from spinning around.

My 996 will be used in the winter but only occasionally when the weather is perfect for a little sunday ride.
