What's involved with painting interior pieces?
 

I have leather trim in mine now, so I assume I need to get my hands on some plastic ones. What's involved with the prep and painting to make this stuff look factory painted? My center console is painted from the factory. I'd like to do the center piece that goes around the radio, etc. and the vent panels. Not sure what else would look good painted without getting too tacky.

I think the Leather looks better IMHO... Those leather trim peices are worth some coin though.

I had a number of interior pieces on my last cab painted arctic silver. Just have the dealer body shop do it. There's very little prep involved and the work that I had done looked great.

i'm having some paint work done right now. i figured this would be a good time to do it. any idea where i can source some of the regular plastic pieces? i haven't seen much on ebay and i'm sure it would cost a fortune to buy them new from the dealer.

Depends on which pieces you need/want. I just did my entire interior in AS (the factory pieces) so I have a lot of the plastic ones left. I eBay'ed several of them but I have the defroster pieces in plastic if you want those. However, the rest of my pieces were leather. Feel free to PM me if you want the defroster pieces.

I always get a chuckle when I read some of this stuff.

"Very little prep" will result in plastic that looks like cheap plastic when painted.

"Just have a dealer body shop do it" usually results in clumsy efforts on small jobs they don't care about

That's why WE are in business. Folks, you cannot paint plastic and rubber and expect a long-lasting, factory matched, durable finish for very long. Sure, some guys get lucky. Most don't. We've done repair work for numerous dealers who had consoles painted by 'their guy' only to find crappy results.

The prep is an enormous step in what we do. But we're known for the finishes we produce. It takes nearly 11 full work days to complete some of these items. If a shop tells you they can turn it around in a day or two, run. RUN. It cannot be done correctly.

I have to agree with Arling and Eric. Eric's work is always A+ I am a repeat...repeat... repeat... you get the point customer. Never one blemish! That is tough to do with paint. BTW I got my door plugs 2 days coast to coast USPS rocks! Oh and you rock too Eric.

Andrew.. def. go with Erik I have seen some of his work as well as work done by regular paint shops. Know how in the prep makes a huge difference. You will be happy with Eriks work

dont know about plastic pieces, but from what I rememebered from prepping my aerokit was LOTS of sanding...gets old fast...haha.
