Anyone have any idea how hard it would be to adapt the GT3 Alacantara 997 shift **** to a 996 leather console...Is there stiching envolved?

Would it work on an all carbon interior and match ok? I love the alacantara feel.

Yeah, just to reinforce what everyone else said, the actual shifter part is identical, so a 997 **** will fit onto a 996 shifter and vice versa. However, what everyone said about the boot is also true, the boots are not compatible. The difference is the shape of the shifter surround trim piece, there is a plastic frame around the boot that clips to this and they are fairly different between the 996 and 997. I think it'd take some stitching and some creativity.

Little off topic, but I went with a B&M "Trak" shifter with an ebay cue ball **** with an imbedded Porsche crest....

997 **** installed

I just put a 997 **** into my 996. It was really quite simple. Just remove the boot from the plastic surround on each. Glue the new boot onto the original surround, snap back in place.

I gotta say, other than the look, the feel of the 997 **** is much nicer to me. Totally a personal preference, but I like the ball feel in my palm. (Ouch, that didn't come out right...)
