Check This Out!!! I'm buying a turbo Kit for my 996!!! I need Opinions Please
Porsche mechanics & porsche freaks I need your assistance please!!!
Sorry this is a little long but I need the true Porsche enthusiasts or mechanics opinions... Seller is offering this turbo kit for well under $1000 brand new. Ok I'm getting a universal turbo kit for my 996 for a great price, but it is at a cheaper price I think due to not having all certain parts. This is a brand new turbo kit for the 996 but it needs few added parts the seller is telling me. He said all it needs is a manifold and down pipe and the kit comes with everything else. I think the only problem I may run into is not having the correct computer in my stock 996 as it will not respond to the the added airflow and it may run rich and perfrom like crap??? Let me know what you all think only if you trully know about turbo kits and porsches please. Here is the full list of brand new parts below. Let me know what you think please? Universal 21 Piece Turbo Kit T3/T4 (T04E) Turbo Charger Capable of producing 450+ HP T3 Flange to Manifold Trim Compressor: 57 Trim Turbine: 76 A/R turbine: 0.63 A/R compressor: 0.50 NPT oil inlet: 1/8 35/38" external wastegate flange 5 Bolt Downpipe exhaust flange 3" Inlet Diameter

Oh Geez.. I hope this a joke...
What do you plan to do with.. 1 turbo 1 Front mounted intercooler 1 wastegate 1 blow off valve a turbo Timmer not sure what that is.. LOL Intercooler piping " MIGHT " require cut to fit?? MIGHT?? How about if it fits perfect ill buy 20 kits.. LOL MIke |
I think what Mike is trying to tell you is that 'universal' kits fit 'universally' bad...if you are fortunate enough and have enough money to eventually get everything mounted and hooked up you will find you need to spend another bundle to make it work...as with everything and especially Porsches you get what you pay for

Alright so you 2 guys are telling me it will work correct??? I appreciate the opionions and I have a porsche mechanic which is a good friend of mine who will do labor work for much cheaper and I can also trade with him for services through my restoration/cleaning business.

Also I already know it will take some modification but I just need to know if you all think it will work with modification either way. Please share that with me.

Good Luck!

Anyone want to give there opinions. I would like to hear from some true porsche mechanics if possible. So far it sounds like it will work but it will tak modifications which I already know but I have a great relationship with a porsche mechanic so that will be a huge help.

I don't want you to take this in a negative way, but I just want to stop you before you make a big mistake. Reading what you've stated about turbos I think you have a lot to learn. I'm sure your mechanic is very capable of working with Porsches, but custom turbos fall into an entirely different category. It looks like you will need to have a custom manifold built which will be costly and unless you have ridiculous amounts of money it will probably be very inefficient. Also for the computer I think what you meant to say is that on the stock computer it will run lean (too much air, not enough fuel). You will probably need to run some kind of a stand alone engine management system. Also very pricey, and then you'll need someone capable of tuning which will take quite some time on the dyno. I know it sounds like a good deal right now, but I think in the end (if you complete it) it will be more expensive, more time consuming, and less powerful/efficient as other developed kits on the market. This is just my 2 cents, but if you want to continue with the project I wish you the best of luck :)

KAZ911,
Thank you for some great advice. I appreciate it very much and this is what I was looking for. After all said and done this would still be cheaper than a $20K turbo kit for my 996. |

Well put... Q, please reconsider! If you want a Turbo minus the cost, and you have a 'good mechanic who will do all the work', another route may want to explore is selling/trading the 996na and buying a salvaged 996 Turbo and rebuilding. At least you'll have a better 'base' to start from....IMO Good luck either way! |
Qcraftsman,
I understand what you want to do. Im in the same boat as you. I saw the same deal and asked my guys what they think and it was DON'T DO IT!! It's cheap for a reason. TPC is coming out with a single turbo kit which I am anxiously waiting on. The price is suppose to be cheaper than installing a supercharger. They are updating their progress here. They are currently installing their 1st turbo kit on a 996. They sound like a great company and I will definitely be waiting on the completion of the kit. Check them out!! Al 1999 996 |
i saw these kits on ebay , ...i dont think its a good idea
|
Call TPC before you "Make" something.
|
I'm no expert but a turbo kit for $1000 .... come on are you serious..It's usually junk ..IMO..A true kit will cost you in the 5 digit range..Don't put something in that you might regret later down the road..
|
It is not going to work. I'd gladly say yes... I don't think anybody knows of any Porsche updated with such an kit, less working properly.
