What is the premium of a new engine?

Looking at a 99 carrera with 62k miles on the clock but the owner reports that the car has had a new engine replaced by porsche in the car at 28k in 2003. He has all the documentation for the work. Doesn't look like it was driven much in the past 7 years. The car is dark blue with tan interior and comes with aftermarket navigation with bluetooth, 6 speed manual, 18 inch aftermarket wheels, nice new sound system (speakers, subwoofers, amps), modded exhaust (?)... He's asking $24k but was hoping to get it for $19-20 but he looks pretty firm saying that a new engine is the difference as well as some of the aftermarket items he has done to the car... thanks for input..

I didn't get much for my new engine when I sold the car. Maybe $1000 - but mostly because it was still under warranty and it had less than 15K on it.. A 5 year old 3.4L with 34K on the clock isn't worth much of a premium in my book. There are plenty of nice 996s at the $25K price point.

If the engine was replaced a few months ago, I would say there should be a premium. Being that is 7 years old - you might as well consider it the original engine

If you'd like a data point - my 02 c2 with 87k miles has a 7k mile old engine under Porsche warranty and I have it for sale @ 26.9k. 24k for a 99 is a great deal for the seller.

really depends on what aftermarket parts he has on the vehicle. If it's stuff you wanted anyway it'll be cheaper buying it on the car than later and aftermarket Porsche stuff isn't cheap.

7yr old engine is hardly a "new" engine anymore. There shouldn't be any reason to pay more for that car.
