MAF Sensor

Anyone know what a MAF Sensor cost? My CEL light has been coming on and off now for about two months and I think I should just replace it. It seems like a pretty simple job. Or should I just clean it? Any thoughts?

Or should I fix it ghetto-style...put a black sticker on top of the CEL. Anyone know of a good sticker place that can custom make this??? hilarious

I hate it when that thing comes on...it just ruins my whole day.

They are less that $300. Why no clean it? What nmakes you think its the MAF? What is the code from te CEL? You aren't by change a Porsche Technician, as their response to ALL CEL's is to replace the MAF without ever doing any diagnosis.

I am not a Porsche technician. Previous records show that this was what was triggering the CEL. And I already just replaced the gas cap. I think I should just clean it. How do you clean these?

I just saturate the elctrode with alcohol and then let dry. I have also used electric connector spray cleaner. You should consider investing $150 in a scanner so you can actually see what is wrong when you get these CEL's. The scanner can be used n all your cars.

I thought about getting a scanner when it first came on but it went off after two days. It's probably better to get one now that it's coming on and off more often.

Thanks.

The advantage of the scanner is not just to turn off the light, but if you periodically use it and look at the normal setting and ranges of the various sensors, you will be beter able to properly diagnois the cause of any problem if one occurs. Too often people get one when there is a problem and they have nothing to compare the readings too,

I had my MAF replaced summer of 03'

Park Place in Dallas did the work -- charged $450 for the part and another $150 for the labor.

Now my check engine light is back on -- same as you...it comes and goes. I have not yet bothered to visit the dealer or have anyone check to see what code is poping up

What's with these CEL's caused by the MAF? I still have my orginal one in and I even run a oiled cone filter. I suspect that many of the MAF's are replaced unnecessarily when they could just be cleaned. However, if you replace it, do it yourself (10 minute job) and buy the part online for less than $300.00.

Spend a few bucks and have it properly diagnosed. If you have little faith in your dealer, I suggest you visit an Independent
service facility that specializes in P cars.

I just bought one from Brandywine Porsche, $381. I have not put it in yet because I cleaned my old one with eletrical cleaner spray. Will
