Has anyone done OEM HID on the foglights H7 MKII headlights ?

I'm planning to put OEM HID on my foglights that uses H7. I have the 99' Litronics headlights.

Has anyone done it?

Thanks.

I've managed to fit a HID-kit inside the headlights themselves, for xenon on the high beams. Had to purchase a kit with slim ballasts though. Regular ones would not fit. Highbeams of fogs doesn't matter, it will fit with slim ballasts.

Thanks. I want to to my fog lights and put a OEM HID, not really a fan of aftermarket. I always use D2S Phillips + stock ballast. That way is not too blueish and like other aftermarkets.

I have a slim ballast HID kit for my fogs on my 996TT. H3. Works great.

Yeah, well, there is no such thing as OEM HID as Porsche never delivered a 996 with xenon fog lights. A D2S-bulb will NOT fit in a H7 bulb holder. Also, since Porsche never made xenon fog lights there is no such thing as a "stock ballast".

What you want is a HID retrofit kit with a xenon bulb that fits in an H7 holder, with slim ballasts so that they can fit inside the headlight housing. When ordering a kit you are free to select both bulb socket and color temperature. If you like the factory clean white style (as do I), select a color temperature of 4300 kelvin. That's the same color temp as the factories use. Ricers with their blue-look use 6000K, 8000K and all the way up to 12000K, which is more purple.

I've done the H7 HID mod on other cars and IIRC, you'll want to get HID kit that has the rebased H7 bulb but you might have to drill out your stock H7 bulb holder housings to run the HID wires out of.

That's what the slim ballast is for. It's small enough to fit inside the headlight. You might find room in the fender for the ballast and hope the cables are long enough so that you can reach the connector when removing the headlights from the car, but I doubt it.

What about on the 2002-2005 MK2 headlights? aren't the fog lights projectors?

Not sure if you want to run the ballast within the headlight and risk fogging up your headlight housing. The warming and cooling of the ballast might not be an issue around warm weather climates but might introduce some level of condensation in cold climates, not to mention lack of heat ventilation thus potentially reducing ballast life.

Best thing to do is to attach the ballast to the outside of the headlight housing.

I noticed on the 2002-2005 Bi-Xenon, the fog lights are dimmer than 99-01 fog lights.
