need a clutch, don't know which one???

Hey guys, it's time for me to replace my clutch!!! I Have a '02 996 c2, thinking about a clutchmaster FX100 stage 1, is that a good choice? Should i replace my flywheel too or can it be resurfaced? If not thinking about a LWFW, and what would be a reasonable price for the job? What should i expect to pay?? Some help please..... Thanks!

i am nearing same point. as to LWFW- unless you track alot, dont.

as you will find out if you search, look hard at RMS and IMS. if there is any leaking, replace. it really isn't that expensive, once the tranny is out.

good luck.

turbomik1 I am curious. What kind of mileage did you achieve with your current clutch? I am currently at 45K on the original clutch (99 C2), and suspect I will require a new clutch setup somewhere in the 60K range.

i up to 85k mi. i am trying to confirm that it was replaced at 30k 5 yrs ago.

the clutch is hard, but grabs well. it seems the RMS may be "weeping" so i will continue to watch it over the next few months.

the clutch is hard
Check your clutch helper spring under your dash. Mine had the same feeling for awhile and spring broke into three pieces at 55,000 miles. I replaced this $50 part and the clutch felt much better. I'm still on the original clutch with 61,000 miles.

My buddy got to 60k on original clutch recently and had to have it replaced.

I'm at 63k, i noticed at higher rev slips. It was ok for last year or so but recently i've been hard on the clutch and now i;m starting to feel he slip even more! I think the last HOTDOG run i did leave'n the parking pushed it over...Damn It!!!

Just buy an OEM Factory Clutch Kit from Suncoast and no need to repalce the Fly Wheels unless you want Lighter... OEM Clutch kit is more than enough for N/A cars..

Looks like 60K is about right. 15K to go; as long I don't hotdog it. I do intend to address the RMS issue defective or not at 60K as well. Can so one chime in on the number of labor hours required to replace the clutch. I have been quoted $1,800 parts/labor when I had a PPI. The quote seems a bit high.

I would say that is in the ball park from a dealer. I paid $2100 six months ago when my throw-out bering went out.

NOWAY!!! I've been checking around where i live in Atlanta, GA. and i found a shop in the city of Marietta (for those who live here in GA. this is great!!) Automobileatlanta, they said to replace the clutch on 2002 996 c2 would cost $630. labor only. If the RMS is leaking then extra $30 no more labor cost on top of that. They also said 70% of the time the flywheel needs to be replaced.
I know that you can resurface the flywheel but however being that it's a dual mass flywheel it is not recommended. Through my reserch i also found out that it requires a different machine to resurface such a flywheel as opposed to the standard flywheel. I know a couple the machine shops i called around here said they won't do it. As for my ride i will go with a clutch master stage 1
and a Luk (oem) flywheel the LWFW not good for street use. It's $887.25 for clutch kit @ horsepowerfreaks.com---A Luk flywheel $660.61 @ thefind.com---and $660. for labor, give/take another $100. for shop supplies and taxs, its about $2310.00. I'd probably do better if i go Sachs clutch kit and Flywheel but i want better stuff or at least i think its better..... hey i'm cool with it.

+1 Zookie....

The RMS replacement is not a big deal... actually the new seal is an up grade and it is right there... some folks oughta have a look when the work is done.... RMS leaking have been around as long as cars have been... most people don't even realize theirs is weeping... and that's usually all it does.... making a mountain outta a mole hill!!
