Any benefit to replacing old motor mounts that aren't shot?

Do motor mounts deteriorate over time or are they just either good or bad?

In other words, should I replace the motor mounts on my 2000 C2 (40k miles) even though there are no apparent indications that they have gone bad.

I don't think I would want to add the stiffer RS mounts, as this car isn't tracked.

I think the rubber does deteriorate over time. If you upgrade your suspension, the difference with the newer one will be more noticable. The trade off with the RS mount is more vibration in the cabin but better feel with less rearward motion.

I think the less stiff mount from the RS would be the turbo mounts or your OEM factory. In your case, you may want to save up for the ROW030 suspension rather than just replace the mounts.

I'm not sure what condition yours is in but mine was totally shot at 107k or so. Right side muffler tip started to sag and couldn't be adjusted no matter what. The old mount was basically just hanging in there. I went with a middle grade one...there's an ebay seller that sells mounts that are stiffer than stock but not solid.

do you know who that seller is?

I've got quite a few stuff from them....no complaints.....price is very good....product looks just like OEM except that they lack any OEM stamps on them....possibly same supplier?

How does one know when motor mounts need changing?

Just replaced mine and it is a good investment. 2000 996 with 104K and new mounts (off eBay-mid stiffness http://stores.ebay.com/Deutsche-Part...id=p4340.l2563 ) made engine smoother and made the read end feel like it had new shocks.

Very easy mod-maybe 45 minutes and cheap for the improvement.

Def recommend!!!

I replaced mine when I experienced a sideways shift when letting go of the accelerator after a full throttle acceleration.
