Porsche Sports Exhaust Cost or Alternative

Hi All...

What is everyones most recent price quotes for how much it costs for the dealer to install the PSE onto a '01 C4?

Anyone doing a private sale of theirs that will fit the '01?

Fister sounds the same. If you want it with valves it will cost you the thousands difference.

+1 for Fister sport mufflers. They sound great for a great price.

If you really want something with a valve or an "on/off" switch, you might consider Fabspeed. I think they make such a system that will be less expensive than PSE.

Fabspeed's Valvetronic system is pretty awesome. Much better sound in my opinion than the PSE and cheaper.

I personally like it as well however even in the "quiet" mode, the Fabspeed is still louder than stock and might not be everyone's taste or intention.

Gucci member here has one if you do a search, I believe he has some video sound clips of it.

A stock PSE system if you can find one new, should run around $4k IIRC.

I have absolutely no automotive mechanical knowledge so please accept this stupid question. If they sound the same what's the advantage of spending thousands for the system with the valve? I used to have flowmasters on my 5.0 and never felt the need to turn the sound down. Am I missing something?

PSE was not that expensive until about 4 years ago. They started getting the price up and up... and up... You can buy a 997 PSE much cheaper than a 996's. The valves themselves cost porsche around $100 each probably less.

+1 for Larryallen. I did the PSE hack show on the Renn site, cost about $200 plus install and have never looked back

A brand new factory PSE will cost you around $6,000 for the parts (yep...6 grand ) plus installation if you don't do the work yourself. See here: http://www.carnewal-europe.com/main.htm (price is 4150 euros). As others have noted, Porsche has raised their price for the 996 PSE through the roof, to the point it makes absolutely no sense to buy one.

Options:

Modified Stock Mufflers (about 1/15th the cost of PSE): FisterD...best "bang for buck" mod. From what I've heard they make a nice sound when you cane it, but are very close to stock if you're driving sedately. You can do probably get close to this doing this "hack" yourself but the cost for the FisterDs is reasonable, reported quality is excellent--I would just go to FisterD and be done with it. Note, this option won't affect your engine's power output.

Aftermarket (about 1/4 to 1/3 the cost of PSE): there are a wide variety of options from many manufacturers. To my knowledge only Fabspeed makes a "switchable" system. All of them sound different than stock across the range (from idle to WOT), and sound different from each other. Each is claimed to gain your engine some HP...that's a nice plus if true but I would buy on sound only, not claimed HP gains. If you go this route do your research and listen live to the systems you're interested in, don't rely just on internet audio clips.

Porsche seems to be one of the few where they can raise parts prices on older cars over and over...

I remember when GT3 sways were around $200 and now they are over $300.

Hey Guys, we have our Maxflo Valvetronic exhaust available which sounds great in normal mode and then opens up a little more in sport mode. Its a direct bolt on replacement for your stock mufflers and will right up to your stock Cats or any aftermarket sport Cats. If you already have the PSE option, the installation is even easier and you still use your interior sport button function for the enhanced sound and power. Let me know if anyone is interested and I will make a special member deal on the muffler upgrade.
Thanks,
