Aftermarket Head Units - let's see em!
 

So as I wait for my next mod to arrive (Arling said it could be months) :(

I'm thinking I'd like to upgrade my headunit - I'm considering the Kenwood Double Din DDX7015 (Newport996 and RobynC have this one) or even just a simple Alpine Single Din MP3 player (similar to Shanks)...

Anyone want to share any others that they've installed and can comment on?

I've had full multimedia (TV's, DVD, etc) in my last 2 BMW's, but not so sure I want the ability to watch The Matrix while I'm driving in the Porsche LOL.

I am still waiting for my Eclipse AVN5495 to arrive sometime by the end of this month. Once out it should blow all these other double din decks away. It has a 30g hardrive with hardrive naviagation and you can record songs from the radio as well as use it as an ipod, it also has a memory stick in and you cna just upload all your music into the unit. It seems very promising, and its supposed to be the best according to my sources. I will keep you posted

but that means finding a place for my temp control to stay... hahaha...

I really want the Pioneer AVIC-N1. I believe I already mentioned this to you Albert. I believe a few people have this in their Porsches. If so, what do you think of it?

Years ago, I had a friend that worked at Alpine...not sure if he is still there. He used to get me sick discounts on headunits and amps. I haven't talk to him in years unfortunately. I guess it might be time to give the brotha a ring!;)

nothing crazy, just GT3 seats....but I needed them in Gray so I have to wait a few months...

Jeff, if you get this make sure you get the N1 and not the new version (N2) - the new version doesn't allow you to watch DVD's while driving and it's not just a simple switch of a wire either....the stereo companies are getting smarter. ;)

I have one there currently ;) Let me know if you need anything. - I'd go with Alpine, but I want something that's double-din.

Two questions? why did you go with it lower? do you like it there? glare? Did you go smaller for the lower one? Also Hardwire your v1 there is a phone plug on the right side of that console to tap making it less than a 5min job! Love the mods-

This was two weeks after I got the car, so I hadn't hardwired the v1 yet. But it did get done.

I just read a quick article on the Kenwood 7015 and it mentioned that the DVD player only worked while stationary. Is this true?

JNRSM3 technically you cant get them to play DVD's while driving, however you have to talk to your installer and ask him to install it so it works all the time. With the new AVIC-N2 and AVIC-D1 (double din) you cannot make it play while driving.
