disclaimer....I'm typing this on my cell phone.
My last performance car I had was a 2005 Corvette coupe with six speed. I bout two years ago when I turned 26. After I bought I did the normal intake, header, exhaust, tune, and shifter. It was a beast and a blast to drive, also being Orange it got noticed. As a single (now) late 20 year old that was a good thing. But it was nothing but motor and it lacked something....... Quality ...not saying it was junk but for what its supposed to be it was subpar. So I sold it and thought for a few months and decided I wanted to enter the world of Porsche. I really was leaning towards a 997 or 996tt but never owning, driven,or being in one I did not want to spend that kind of money on something I did not know I would like. I optioned for a 1999 911 c2 with 52k miles. I got a great deal on it, the inspection checked out, and it it looks brand new. I picked it up in Chicago and made the 300 mile trip back home to central Illinois. Let me tell you this car is superb and well put to together. The car is 12 years old so it has some rattles and little stuff but that expected. The seats or comfortable for a 4.5hr drive they show minimal wear except on the outside bolster on driver side it is fading and wearing down. There are no cracks in the dash or the leather, even though I doubt they were conditioned or cleaned much before I got my hands on it. Everything in the car works and its not overly dated. I am changing the lights in the dash and ac to blue lcds to update them a little. The door handles, hinges, ect are all tight and don't rattle or squeak. Which my 05 vette did. Come to think of it, the vette had a lot more rattle, sqeaks and wear than the Porsche and I was the second owner and took immaculate care of it. The exterior looks at home against most new cars where the previous gen before my vette shows its age against modern cars. Now the handleing is what really impressed. The vette felt heavy even though its not super heavy and hard to push it on corners(personal feelings). The Porsche seems light and nimble on its feet. It's easy to make go.fast in corners and inspires confidence. The vette was ***** to the walls fast but the Porsche is quik. If you have driven both you know what I'm talking about. The pick up is not drastic but nice and smooth and still line you to the seat. Over all I'm very impressed. With the Porsche and am planning my assaults on mode. My shocks are going so after I update the exterior lights I'm going to do coilovers then maybe do gt2 front bumper and rear deck lid/wing with side skirts. Maybe a supercharger someday but I don't want to dip into my lambo fund to much as I'm hoping to add a gallardo to the stable in the next 6 or so years also.

i had a C5 (98) and totally understand. That V8/6-speed trans combo was in every car GM made with a manual V8, and i also had an 04 GTO, same thing. The good part is it's versitile. In the lighter vette, it performs best(still not that great). IN the GTO is was kinda shrimpy (the LS2 GTO was a little better). The Porsche made this engine/transmission SPECIFICALLY for the vehicle you're driving. It's made to work well with the rear engine, with the weight of the car, with the suspension. It works as a unit and is overall great. the tq curve i'm sure u noticed is dramatically different. instead of hitting 3000rpms and flattening out at 350hp, it just goes and goes and goes and makes every gear and every RPM valuable.
Sorry for babbling, but i'm sure you'll agree with all of this. congrats and welcome. i love my 996.

I drove a vette too a C5 a few years ago at a dealer super quick but low as hell and rough rattled ride I wasn't impressed to say the least. Enjoy your Porsche remember there is No Substitute!

Welcome! From a newer member here. I have already learned so much, as I am sure you will as well. Coming from a Maserati 4200GT and a 500whp BMW I thought I was going to be disappointed in some area. In NO WAY have I found that to be the case. My 911 is focused, balanced and above expectations in every way. It even works for me as an excellent GT car. Congrats and again, Welcome.

I also just made the jump. I went from an '04 Z06 to an '02 C2 Cab.
The 911 is such a better road car, it's not even fair to compare. Th 911 has the ride quality and road feel that I lost when I sold my NSX. It's quicker than that car was too. It gives me the thing I miss most from my roadsters ( the open top ), and I feel like I could tackle Sebring's bumps and tear down Mulsanne in th 911.
Yep, it's a keeper. Oh, and it's only got 4200 miles, so there's that.
