on a 996, does higher mileage eventually decrease the engine's performance?

So, I've been wondering for some time now...will there ever be a point in time (maybe a certain mileage) where the engine on my 02 996 will lose some of its power capability? Is wear & tear on our engines really an issue to be concerned about?

I'm currently at 32,000 miles. The car feels fine, but I'm worried that in due time, I'll notice a lack in performance. [On my old turbocharged car, turbo lag was very noticeable, especially as I crossed in the 80,000-90,000+ range. Of course, I'm far from that now, but this is still something on my mind].

Any insight?

Thanks

They only get better and run better...I had 42k on my 2000 and it was running great....

56,000 miles here, still feels brand new.

The looser they get ,the faster they run. IMO :D

Motor Trend (I think, or maybe C&D) just completed a long-term test on their C4S, and found that it ran harder and faster after 40k miles. I recall also another long-term test on a 99, and they found the same.

I agree with the above statements....My 99 had 75K miles on it before an engine replacement and it was VERY strong.

I read the same review in C&D.

In general, the highest performance on an engine will be at about 30K miles (except a Yugo ;) ). It takes that long for everything to wear in together and run its best.

On a Porsche, it'll go to 100K miles fine without really having a noticeable power decrease. I think at that point the seals will start to go a bit and you might start to notice a difference, but that's just my opinion, not fact.

i've noticed power improvements, though modest, from most of my cars after driving for many miles. with my bmw, the car seems to get faster and faster: 50k and still stronger.

I bought my 01 w/ nearly 60k on the clock. Feels every bit as strong as any of the cars I test drove w/ much less miliage.

it is true that a properly broken in higher miliage Porsche runs faster than when it's new.

Arling you back? You kill me.....lol....congrats...

86,000+ miles and I haven't noticed a difference.

But what does make a difference is the weather. It defintiely runs better (i.e., more power) when it's cool outside. It hates hot sunny days.
