Got a buyer & now just can't sell...what to do?
 

So i love my 996, had it 2 years, got it with 37k, now have 65 K, spent alot of money on mods & preventative maintenance, the car looks just right.. (Actually i just ordered the Prior Design Rear Bumper + Diffuser & its at shop getting Installed now)

I listed the car last week for what i believe is a fair price based on the cars history & etc.. just thought i'd list it & started thinking about a New 991 (then realized its too expensive + dont wanna finance) so figured ok, move to a 2005-2006 997.

Now i have a very serious interested buyer, who isn't haggling about price or low balling me, he actually realizes the cars value (IMS, CLUTCH, MODS etc) he is ready to pull the trigger, but I'M NOT..... Then why the hell did i list it? i know!!

#1- If i move into an early 997, i still would like to do the preventative maintenance. $$ & my car i know its history, i know its strengths..etc

#2- The visual mods on my car are now almost complete, finally getting the prior design rear bumper put on (buyer doesn't want it, since it wasn't on car when i listed it)

#3- I love its sound, everything about it...can i really find a 997 this clean, for 6-7 k more? doubt it... & if i do, by the time i buy the kind of wheels i'd like, bumpers & all that, were talking another 10k.

All in all i told him i'd make my mind up tomorrow, i hate being one of those "people" that list something for sale, get asking price & not even want to sell it... :( but i feel like i'm giving up my child..lol

Usually if you're not sure about doing something and thinking about it doesn't make you happy then it's for a reason. I've found this especially true when selling a car!
Every time I've sold a vehicle I was 100% sure and happy to see it go!

But then again a 997 is a fine looking car and you don't need to buy the mods immediately..anticipation is half of the fun :p

I hear ya man! I just dont feel good about selling it! From a financial stand point, it would be a good decision because its rare to find a buyer that appreciates what you've done to the car & willing to pay a premium...however i'll definitely want to buy another one and mod rite away, thats at least 10k i'll have to shell out.....but from an emotional stand point..i just love it, PLUS ITS GETTING THE PRIOR DESIGN REAR BUMPER INSTALLED RITE NOW!!!

That's a beautiful car you got there! if you don't mind me asking... whats your asking price on the car?

The buyer appreciates the mechanical things done to the car as well the the cosmetic mods + maintenance... & not always will you find buyers like that, this is what kind of leads me to want to sell...but again, i'm so unsure & uneasy about selling, i dont think i can do it!!!

I just went through the same exact thing.

I thought I was ready to move on to another car, so I listed it for sale.

I had a buyer bringing me a check ..... and I backed out. (he is a good friend)

Everything I wanted or liked any better to replace my car was over $100K.

I had modified it perfectly for me and I love my car and will keep her for a few more years at least.

I would do as white out said and get a 996tt as that is a good price to get for your car= and for 8k more you can get a turbo with about the same miles as your car.

I did thinking to sell my car before but after my mods and where is right now take me 3 years.
Do i have time to doit again? No
Am i happy with my car? Yes

So my advice to you is dont sell and keep it!
Btw that rear bumper is badass!!!

Hey, there's no pressure here. If you don't feel good about selling it - keep it until you start to feel different. Once it's gone, it's too late to reconsider.

You have done a lot of nice stuff to make that car perfect for you. I know exactly how you feel.

Keep the car but the one thing I would do is be honest with the buyer and tell him you just cant part with it but... give him first crack at it if you change your mind in a week or 2. I dealt with a guy last winter on a Ford GT. We made a verbal deal and I drove 6 hours each way to see it. Told him I would take it. Next day he calls and says he cant sell it. Feels terible etc and even offers to pay for my fuel. I was upset but totally understood and asked that if he changes his mind I wanted first crack at it. He agrees. 2 weeks later he calls back and wants to sell again. Im excited. I go and get enlosed trailer out of a snow bank. Go to bank to get certified cheque and and Im ready to leave the next morning and I call him to arrange a time to meet. He doesnt answer. Im a little worried. I keep calling. No answer and wont retun my calls so I wait before driving 6 hours. He finall sends me a text to say he's changed his mind AGAIN !!. This time I wasnt so nice and sent him a pretty ignarant email and left him a message of what I thought of his antics. So... Dont be that guy. Keep the car if you want it. He'll understand but just dont list it again unless you are 100% sure you want it gone. PS.. GORGEOUS Car. Id want to keep it too...haha.

I see what you are saying , fist off I'm in the same boat as you - i've done alot of work on my 996 looks practically brand new to the general public, and dont see myself selling it...BUT I know in the back of my mind if I saw a clean modded 997 similar to mine with alot of home work done to save me $ and time I know I would jump on it.

Overall yes the 997 is a better car. You'll have to make it your "own" if you jump into one. With all your current mods seems like you still want to keep the car but REMEMBER you might not get a great deal on selling your car if you let this buyer go!
