Advised against PSS9's (lowering)
 

I finally brought my 01 996 C2 in to have the PSS9's installed at a Porsche shop that came highly reconmended by several p-car owners. The owner was trying to talk me out of installing them. He stated that there would would be additional wear and maintence associated with lowering the car. I've never heard this b4 and it really makes no sence to me. I specifically told him to not go any lower than the rear would allow for proper allignment so I wouldn't think he would be referring to rear tire wear.

Anyone have an idea of what he may be refferring to?

Lowering the car does put more wear and tear on the car due to the harsher ride and decreased suspension travel. Nothing out of the ordinary. I don't know if he was referring to anything else in general. I would gather that he's just being extremely conservative. You should have nothing to worry about, there are a zillion happy PSS9 owners on this board and I'm sure they can attest to it's quality and performance.

Yes, in general you wear out suspension parts more quickly than stock...but how many people in YEARS of ownership replace suspension parts? The height of these cars are lower in Europe you know...what about the GT3...a very low car stock? He was just being conservative. I have had lowered cars for years since the 80's with my slammed mini truck, and I have never had suspension problems. A very happy PSS9 owner...

Conservative is good. Just had me worried. The car has 60k miles on it and the suspension needed changing anyway.

Have him read the instructions pertaining to setting ride height. Do this with gt2 specs for align and you will love it. If you doubt it read the "Shootout" article Feb. '05 Excellence magazine.
We ran PSS9's, every one else ran something else, to each their own, however the Journalists favored "the simple black turbo" in the handleing and driveability departments.

I told them to use X74 specs. Comprimising to keep ride quality.

Don't forget about the lifetime warranty on US PSS9's

like there is a Bilstein factory in the US? What is the distinction?

Why not just x74 in the first place, sounds like you're not going to be adjusting them all the time (and re-aligning) anyway?

I was originally only going to change the springs, then I figured with 60k miles the shocks were worn too. Then I saw a great deal on the PSS9's used here on 6speed....

I'm being told It should be ready for pick up on Monday. I had an appt made a month ago to drop it off this past Tuesday. I dropped it at 9:30a.

How long is normal to wait for this type of service (PSS9's and oil change)? I realize service is going to better were there's a larger number of Porsches on the road and more competition between shops, but a week wait when I had an appointment a month in advance???

One more happy camper w/ PSS9.

WOW. One week for PSS9 install and oil change....that's pretty long. PSS9s can be installed in a couple of hours by a good mechanic. Oil change takes 30 minutes max. You'll forget about the wait in no time after get your car back. It really does make a HUGE difference. have fun with it.

When they did my x73, took almost 5hrs, a week, that's too long.
