99-2001 Radio Trim update to 2002-2004

I purchased a cartridge style 'under vent' cupholder that I didn't realize only fits 2002-2004.

Is there a way for me to modify my current setup to make it fit or should I swap out the whole radio area for the 2002-2004 setup?

I have a 2001 996 with double din radio.

Appreciate your guys help.

So this is an image of my radio bezel and the cartridge cup holders i'm trying to fit.

Has anyone ever put a new radio carriage or trim/vent into a 99-2001 dash?

I am curious if the swap is possible so I can use these cupholders with a double din radio or can I move the double din to where the temperature control and cubby are down below and relocate the climate control and cubby up top to make this work?

I am going to remove the trim piece and cut out below the vent and it should fit in there. If not I'm ordering another trim and radio support anyways.

I'll take more pics. Major issue i'm having is this is a 'navigation trim' and it changes if you don't have that.

Well, no luck. There is a carriage for the old navigation mounted further back in the dash and I would have to cut the bottom of the 'vents' for it to slide in.

No cup holders for me!

You aren't missing much. They are worthless.

I wasn't looking to put large drinks in it. Just needed a place to put my daughter's sippy cup when we go on cruises. She falls asleep with the wind blowing and I don't want her cup spilling.

I might look at that cup holder that sits down by your legs that tucks under the console.

I saw it on here once, but I don't remember the name of the product or company

You can get a front trim for 2002, it should fit. Cheap second hand.. There are dozens all the time.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-2002...7b2966&vxp=mtr

Not sure if you need any other piece just do a search...

Maybe this too... not sure

Think you need something like this...it says:

"Upgrade this in your older Porsche if you want a cup holder."

That's exactly what I need, but wrong color. Does the vent piece still work with my existing vent setup? Seems like they wouldn't mate together properly inside the dash.

There is a metal support bracket that supports the back of the cup holder that changed in 2002...

#19 in the below diagram. It's back in the recess, might be difficult to install.

If you absolutely need something to hold a cup, might try one of these?

Have you used the ultimate cup holders yourself?

Interesting on how strong it is against corner tipping. Do feel safer with it lower because if it spills it's not on electronics (at least).

+1 on Ultimate Cupholder. I have 2 of them and really like the stability and capacity.

+1 again. They are awesome in corners. I have a cup of coffee every morning on the way in to work. With the (worthless) stock cup holders on my '99 they were a place to rest when shifting, that's it. With these, I tend to forget about the coffee on the drive in and have my first sip walking in the office. Never spilled a drop with a variety of different travel mugs.

I have the ones that clip into the vents I use for my son. He has the same problem as your child. They are nice, easy to install and remove when not needed and work really nice.
