99 model brake question.
 

My used 99 (new to me - first 911) came with yellow calipers and metal cross drilled rotors so I assumed the previous owner just had the calipers painted. In researching the option codes on the car I see 450 listed which is Ceramic brakes (PCCB). I didn't think the rotor material was steel on the PCCB option (at least on the new cars). What's the story on that option back then is it safe to say I have the upgraded brakes?

I don't know the option codes back then or even on todays model. I have a C2 99 and my calipers are black. The previous owner of your car may have tracked the car and upgraded the brakes in some way. (larger rotors and calipers). Or as you say, simply painted the originals yellow and added the Porsche stickers to the calipers. Either way if you are a DIY guy it might be worth checking the pads. A tracker usually leaves out the anti squeal shims on the back of the pads and the break wear connections to the pads. He may have gone through the original rotors and upgraded. I don't know if that will help you in any way to your questioning. There is a video on youtube on how to change brake pads and rotors if needed.

You might check with your dealer but I don't believe PCCB was available prior to... Several years later than '99 on the Carrera ('04 I believe). Porsche has used the 450 code and M450 at least twice. If your car is a 1999 your 450 would be; 450 - Alloy wheels, black, Carrera only, 6JX1 5 front, 7JX1 5 rear. If you have a PCCB kit, it is most likely an aftermarket install.

thanks guys I checked them out a little closer. They're the standard brakes with the calipers painted yellow.

there is no chance that your brakes are PCCB . was not offered in 99

And no one would spend $8k on a '99 for brakes, at least no sane person
