Most miles on their stock 996
I am just curious who on here has the highest amount of miles on their 996 in stock form, and how many miles that is. Meaning you are vulnerable to a possible IMS Bearing failure and have just said "screw it!" and kept on drivin'! Your car still has the original motor, it hasn't been rebuilt, and has had no IMS refit or upgrade.

I'm on my 2nd 996. My 1999 had 122,000 when I sold it. My new (to me) 2002 996 has 49,000.

I recently bought my 99 with 85K miles on it. I had the 90K service done as well as the AOS, IMS, water pump and RMS. The dual row OEM bearing and RMS were fine but the water pump and AOS were both obviously on their way out. The water pump and AOS are fairly expensive to replace by themselves. There are 2 groups around here the "screw it" and paranoid types. I'm definitely one of the 2nd! My personal opinion is if one can get a look at the oil filter/oil analysis and possibly pull the sump on a high mileage car that goes a long way to showing potential issues with a high mileage motor.

I think there's a group somewhere in the middle too. I did have my IMSB replaced with a ceramic bearing from LN Engineering. However, I didn't have it installed until I had my original clutch replaced at over 120,000 miles.

if it goes, it'll be a good 20k paperweight but.....
don't worry and enjoy or just replace and enjoy...it's not worth worrying about. why don't you do a poll for mileage with untouched original ims/engine? |
106,+ AOS and water pump, that's all

My 99 now has 134,XXX miles, original clutch, no IMS/RMS issue, besides some minor squeaks over bump, still running strong!

Been wondering thou about time chain etc. Are there any issues that need to be addressed at that high mileage ? |
