I guess nothing lasts forever...

Plan was to keep this forever...It hailed for 15 minutes...huge golf balls
170k+ original engine and stock u know what. It really WAS perfect inside out...

Insurance needs to come out but I'm pretty sure it's totaled. Every single panel is damaged. Now the interior engine suspension is set up perfectly for me. What do I do next if they want to total the car? I know they won't give me anything close to what I've put in...damn it. Buy back the car? How does that work?

Better aerodynamics!

Hurdigurdiman 05-22-2014 07:22 PM

OMFG you poor man. I am so sorry to see a lovely 911 in such a state. I am shocked. Where did this happen. What state. We have had golf ball hail in PA today near Harrisburg and also Reading I believe. I feel so sorry for you. I know how much I love my car and feel for you. Life is so unfair at times.

geetee 05-22-2014 07:24 PM

Yep...I was in Reading....

B8_RDC 05-22-2014 07:56 PM

Btw not trying to be heartless. My B8 A4 Audi met a similar fate, but brought me here!

I was going to take my b8 a4 today...i picked up the wrong key.

Has anyone bought back their car? I'm not sure if that'll be a good idea though...

alpine003 05-22-2014 09:25 PM

Sorry about your situation. I had a similiar situation where I faced a dilemma of pulling my car out of a flooded garage and risk getting hail damage or leave the car in the garage and risk flood damage. I ended up jacking up my car in the garage and the flood water just barely touched my undersides luckily.

Depending on the buy back price - payout, I'd make lemonade by doing widebody 997 GT3RS widebody conversion with CF roof.:D This would basically replace all the areas that's been affected by the hail.;)

Looks like Tiger Wood's ex-wife got a hold of it!!!!....Damn!!!!!

that's why golf balls have the dimples in them...:D

but on a serious note, if they do try to total it.. Find some comparable cars listed for sell and try to bump up the offer that they try to give you. Then when its all said and done. Just ask how much to buy it back.
Example:
if they say all its worth is $15,000
and buy back it $3000
then they will cut you a check for $12,000

ECS Tuning - Porsche 05-23-2014 01:10 PM

That first photo looks like something out a movie. We had some hail the other night, but not nearly as big as that. The best of luck and keep us posted on what you end up doing.

Dennis C 05-23-2014 03:40 PM

That sucks. Time for an upgrade.

Franco67 05-23-2014 07:09 PM

Ouch That's horrible! Sorry that happened to you!

naples991 05-23-2014 07:50 PM

Yikes! That sucks. Hope you end up doing ok.

geetee 05-27-2014 06:31 PM

estimated around 20k for repair...i guess it's safe to say it's done...we'll see what offer I get

I'm not sure what to get next...

It would have warned you about the day hours in advance.
It would have warned you about the specific storm 30 minutes prior.
And it would have prevented the damage with the press of a button.
All for about $300.

geetee 05-29-2014 10:19 AM

It looks like buy back is not worth it...I should have some parts for sale after I get my stock parts back on

Coloradocurt 05-29-2014 12:41 PM

You might want to check into these guys-
http://dentct.com/
or some other outfit that specializes in hail damage (I would look for one that (1) had been in business a long time, and (2) was a national franchise operation with proprietary techniques. I would also look to find customer feedbacks/complaints).
I had a mindless incident where I dropped the hood on one of my cars with a wrench still sitting on the engine. A single ugly "zit" which wasn't nearly as rounded as your dimples are. Now I could tell you were it had been and you'd never spot it.

Just curious what they offered you and which ins company? Feel free to pm me

geetee 05-31-2014 05:47 PM

I did check PDR....there's just too much

Anyways, it looks like I won't be going back to a 996 NA. Thinking of cayman, boxster(not really a convert guy, I think I had the top down once in my old 986s) or another 996 turbo.

I'll have a eibach rear sway bar, fabspeed supercup's(version 2), speedtech 200 cells(version 1) and nhp x51(maxspeedmotorsports) headers for sale soon.

geetee 06-05-2014 11:06 AM

exhaust components are officially up for sale in classified

Tarek307 06-07-2014 01:55 AM

you are gonna regret not buying it back from Insurance, i totally regret not keeping my 997 after it got totaled!!! i could have either fixed it cheap and just kept driving it, or sold it myself for at least $5,000 more in profit

AA717driver 06-09-2014 01:41 PM

Probably not safe to drive.

Every time I drive something with dimples like that, it goes straight for about a hundred yards then takes a 90-degree right turn into the woods.hilarious;)

Sorry. Hope you get this settled and don't lose your baby!

TC

Can I ask what the ins company offered? My husband just told me he wants a dedicated track car so I thought about your car. Pls pm me if you are willing to sell. Thanks!
