I'm cluless: Value for 996 wheels and tires?
I'm cluless: Value for 996 wheels and tires?
I've had a 1986 911 and I'm pretty up to speed on the prices for parts (usually crazily priced!) I now have a 996 and sad to say I'm a bit clueless on used part prices. I'd like to get rid of my OEM 17" 5 spoke wheels with quite new Micheline Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires. These are the best ultra performance all seasons currently on the market. These would make excellent off-season wheels/tires for someone who wants to put their summer wheels/tires away during lousy weather.
So Best and Brightest....what are these worth on the used market?

To give you some perspective, I bought a set of "as new" take off wheels for my Cayenne from my local Porsche dealer a few years ago. The buyer of a new Cayenne wanted 20" wheels and the wheels that I bought were the 18" wheels that were originally mounted on the new car. I paid $500 for them, minus the center caps. If you use that as a baseline and you figure in the cost of a set of slightly used tires at around $750 then it seems reasonable to ask for $1,250 for the set. That may be a little bit high. 17" wheels have fallen out of fashion except for winter wheels for C2 and C4 cars (they won't fit on the C4S or turbo), and I would imagine that most people who go to the trouble of changing their wheels for winter duty are looking for a proper winter tire.
That's my $.02 worth of advice!

If anyone else has a perspective, I'd enjoy hearing it!

I would say $1k if you don't mind sitting on them for awhile until the right buyer comes along or closer to $800 if you want to sell them faster. You might also want to market them to Boxster crowd as quite a few of them aren't looking for max performance but practicality and since quite a few came with 17's as standard. The boxster will need rear spacers but otherwise should fit as long as your rear tires don't exceed 265 width.
