996 rear facing infant's car seat

I have just purchased a '99 996. I was able to convince my pregnant wife that I needed to sell the boxster and get a car with a back seat (for the baby). Now I need to find a child's seat that will fit in the back jump seats. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Britax or the porsche OEM one...

I had a Graco SnugRide infant seat when our daughter was a baby. It fit in the rear seat if you didn't use the base. I must say, getting an infant in the back and then buckling the infant carrier in is not the easiest thing to do. Also, there's nowhere to put a stroller (it won't fit up front in the trunk), so you're kind of limited as to where you go with your baby.

If you bought a cab and your wife is taller than 5 feet then you are almost SOL. If you have a coupe, it will still be a royal PITA but it can be done. I have tried to use Porsche toddler and child seats in my '01 cab and it was almost impossible. My wife is only 5' 2" and my kids sat with their legs splayed apart to straddle the back of the front seat. The seat bottoms are so long that it almost touches the seat back even with it pulled way up so there is no legroom at all. In a coupe you have a more reclined rear seat because there are no roll over hoops or top mechanism so there is more room. I have never tried the rear facing infant seat but I would imagine that it would be worse than the toddler or child seats in the back.

I just used a generic Graco infant seat and it worked just fine. I think it fit more snugly than the porsche seat imo, plus it was 1/4 the cost.

You won't be able to use the base, but it only took me about 10 seconds to strap the infant seat in/out. Just make sure you pull the seat belt all the way out, and then let it release to tension so that it make the clicking noise.

You will have to strap your baby into the infant seat before putting the seat into or taking out of the 996.

Thanks for all the good tips about car seat. My car is a coupe, and it sounds like I have a few options.

Try the search option and look for baby seats. There is a lot of info on that issue. That is how I found out about my current seat.

I currently use the Britax RoundAbout in a 2002 C4 cab. My daughter was 16 months old when I got the car Jan '05. We have a lot of fun together on the weekends, I will get up early, install the baby seat and take my daughter for a ride. My wife gets to sleep in, etc. and it gives me time with my little girl.

My wife is 5ft tall, and I have a coupe, and it was still tight. But can be done. The front passenger seat has to be pulled pretty far forward. The real issue is what to do when you get to your destination since you can't fit a stroller in the trunk.

Recaro makes some really cool seats. They are not rear facing but you can check these options out.
