'Here's Why the Best Porsche 911 is the Hated "996" Model' - Doug DeMuro

I happen to agree with him.

For me though, the best part of the video is when we get to see the licence plate.... classic!!!!!!!hilarious

Is this anyone on here's car?

This is awesome. Does your car handle like a dump truck compared to those cars? No it's still a 911. Is it slower? Hmm No. So you got a $20-$40k discount because your headlights have a weird shape and you have some plastic on the interior? Yes.

I love Doug's write ups. He is a true car guy and love his oddball reviews (examples: Qvale Mangusta, TVR tuscan, Plymouth Prowler, Defender 90). I know this is the 996 forum and I know you guys are for the most part going to agree with me, but i never understood the "hate" for the 996. IMHO, i thought this was a very good transition vehicle from the past to the future of 911. Lest we forget, Porsche was in financial trouble during the 996's inception. Was build quality the greatest, probable not. What is most important though is that The 996 did not lose its "911 spirit". It was still rear engined, tricky at the limit, still had the flat 6 and still the ultimate daily driver sports car. Between the 996, Boxter and the Cayenne, this trio saved Porsche. You can thank these cars for vehicles like the Carrera GT, 918, RS models so on and so on.

I know we all like our cars but honestly, wouldn't you rather it had a Mezger engine? And if you had an extra fifty or sixty thousand to throw at a car, is the 996 really the car you would buy? It is great bang for the buck, but with just a little more money, one can do better.

"And if you had an extra fifty or sixty thousand to throw at a car..."

Hmmm...very clear and concise writing ^there^. So which is it, $50k - 60K ?
Or, "but with just a little more money, one can do better" ???
Really? An extra $50-60k puts you in the $70-80k range, so no - I don't think you'd be looking at a 996...geezzzzz

Was about to reply but I see dporto handled this. He is basically saying if you had triple the amount of money, e.g., $70-80k to spend vs. $20-25k to spend, wouldn't you buy something else? That is like saying, if you had triple the amount to spend on a house, wouldn't you buy something else? We could play this all day.

My wife and I put our 996 in a European Concourse this past weekend.

Over 250 cars, the only car that wouldn't start when it came time to leave, yes, an Air Cooled 911. Fuel pump issue.

Every 996 started.

It starts to get old the 996 bashing.

I don't remember seeing your car there.
I kept the Tubi mufflers from roaring because my wife gets a little %@*&%$ if I get on too hard 😲😲
Are you glad you did muffler swap?
