Since I was 5, no joke, I always wanted a 911. Those commercials, with the kid drooling over one, yeah that's me (probably you, too).

Finally I own a 911. Just got it about 6 weeks ago for my birthday appropriately enough. It's a cherry, mint 1999 911 with, get this, 15962 miles. It's Ocean Blue Metallic, 6 speed, full leather package, K40 dealer installed, upgraded ADS amp/speakers, and a Sony 6 disc with ESP. And, the Porsche Classic 18 inch wheels.

With that said, I have a host of questions that I'm hoping to get answer to on this site.

1) Anyone know where I can get a window sticker reprint?
2) Any mechanical gremlins I should be wary of on the 1999?
3)How do I interface an iPod to the stereo system?
4) What are some cheap, easy performance mods I can do? I am thinking Fabspeed straight pipes, cold air intake, K&N filter. What else?
5) Now if I want to get crazy with some power, what are some good options? What does a decent turbo kit cost and what kind of power can I expect?

I probably have more questions, but can't think of them righ now.

Congrats! Need PICS! 1st mod should be a short shift kit. Follow that with suspension and then worry about power. Don't worry about gremlins address them as or if they come. Change the oil though. Really low mileage for a 99, was it sitting in a garage?

Your H/U should have a plug in the back that supports a special cable ($30.00 at any car stereo place) to hook up an IPOD or MP3. Run the cable around the side of the console and it just plugs into your IPOD. I stash mine behind the little console side cover when not in use- snap it off, roll up the cord and snap cover back in place.

Welcome. Similar story for me as well. Wanted a 911 for as long as I can remember. Bought my first 911 on my birthday 2 weeks ago. My wife calls it my early mid-life crisis at the ripe age of 31. +2 on the short shifter mod. I'll be ordering one soon. I am thinking about a B&M. Any others to consider?

Welcome to the world of Porsche ownership. There is no substitute. Eibach or H&R lowering springs should be put on your "to do" list.:D

OK...mods...: exhaust, suspension, SSK (yes B&M is fine).

The car was someone's creampuff...averaging 2285 miles per year. Just had the 30k service done at 17k miles at the dealer's suggestion. Plugs definitely showed signs of build up associated with short distance driving.

kc911/others-Why the short throw? Is there anything flimsy about the shift forks in the car now, or is the recommendation purely from a "time it takes to shift" perspective? And any rec's on suspension mods. I had a B&M on my C5 and it was klunky.

Welcome nice choice! I bought my '99 2 years ago, mint, with 20k and I love it! I'll only get rid of it for another Pcar, maybe the future has a turbo in store for me...

Is your P-car a certified pre-owned Porsche? If not, consider an extended warranty. The 1999 911's have many known issues.

Try renntech.org for info regarding the various known issues with 99-01 996s. You can get access to TSBs (tech service bulletins) for a $20 donation to the site. RennTech has many DIYs on the site for repairs, mods and maintenance.

I bought my 99 C2 two years ago with 23K miles on it. Just turned 49K miles this week and love the car. Unfortunately, I have experienced many of the known issues with the 1999s. I'm the second owner and got copies of all the work done by the previous owner, so I know the car was serviced regularly by my local Porsche dealer.

Repairs under warranty so far: replace RMS, fix valve cover leaks, replace blown coil pack, replace MAF, replace A/C evaporator core (no air after 6 months), TSBs for other oil leaks, replace gas cap access locking mechanism, replace passenger side power seat motor, replace cruise control.

Repairs not covered by warranty - new clutch (replaced while engine apart for RMS - $275, replace coolant tank ($650 at dealer - did it myself for $200), replace faulty trunk latch microswith $51 parts my labor, replace steering wheel air bag mount (horn was going off every time I hit the brakes) $41 parts my labor, hunt down and kill MANY rattles in the dash - 9 page TSB and a few hours of my time. I'd guess I've gotten about $5000-6000 worth of warranty work done over the past two years. My car is pretty tight now - thank god! Good luck with yours.

Almost forgot - I put a B&M SSK in six months ago. Lots of fun, but definitely notchy. You might want to pass if you don't like clunky shifting.
