Fuel gauge not reading added gas

This has happened twice in a row now so I assume it's a slight issue. When the tank has around 1/4 full, I'll go to the gas station and put in $20 (or roughly 7.5 gallons). The car's fuel gauge does not register the difference in fuel until usually the day after. Is this normal or should I get the fuel sensor checked out by the dealer? I think the fuel gauge was an issue on some of the 02s but I'm not sure if that means the fuel gauge just stops reading all together or if it's symptoms like mine.

I also posted this on Rennlist and it appears that some people there have the same issue but never checked it out.

Is this normal for our cars?

s.bjorn.hoffman is infamous around these parts
After "empty" the tank needs to be topped up to more than 1/3 full for the meter/computer to be able to register and recalculate volume and range.

But you should to be well above 1/3 after fill-up , so I guess this info doesn´t help...

why not ask Loren or Tool Pants at renntech.org forums??

http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...el+gauge+error

seems like they are able to figure most things out.

Are you leaving the vehicle running (at idle) while filling up? This will cause your symptoms. I did this once in the winter to keep the wife warm, and my guage was way off for basically the whole new tank.

Good Luck
