XM radio & asst questions

Okay I admit it. I suck at searching for things.
Maybe I need to seek out this question on the general board but I will start here since this is my car series.
I want to add XM to my car. I have read somewhere on some board but don't recall where I read it, about some bloke putting in the XM system from the SUV into this car and that it appeared to plug right in.
True or false?
I want to place a unit that would hopefully look nearly stock in the location where the 4 CD storage is and leave me the cubby under it for my phone and crap.
1. Do we have a vendor that I am not finding yet that does stereo enhancements?
2. Can the disk changer be added to a car if it didn't get ordered with it? Are there plug ins already under the carpet in the trunk?
3. What is the real difference in the head units from the base to the upscale one? What I have read sounds like it is simply an amp difference. True?

Have had this car less than a week and feel like it has been forever. Awesome machine!!!

Tweety,

I have not heard of the SUV swap path. I just picked up an XM commander, installed it in dash, and connected it in place of the 6CD changer. As I recall had to get a pigtail to make that connection. It fits in the location you describe. I took a quick route and mounted the smaller XM faceplate on top of a blank w/cutout -- probably could have spent some time and come up with a non-layered solution. You should be able to see it just above the shifter in the pic below. My 01 already had the CD changer so I didn't have to figure out if/how to add that AUX functionality.
