Who's running a lightweight flywheel on here?
Looks like they'll be in my tranny soon regarding the rms issue. I'm considering doing a lightweight flywheel while they're in there. I'd like to get some feedback from people that are running them.
Are there recommended brands to use and/or stay away from? How is the driveability? Is the noise obnoxious? Is stalling an issue? My wife drives the car too, so I have to keep her in mind when changing something like this. Thanks. |
I too am interested! : ) Its only a matter of time I break something in that area and mind as well change it while im in there : )

I've got the Sachs stage 2 w/LWFW. As easy as stock for driveability. The noise is most apparent when the clutch is out and you are just idling (especially load w/AC). I have gotten used to it...no big deal (and I have a cab). Stalling is the same as stock. Go for it...great responsiveness and for me it was necessary.

I had one in my old race car and I did not really mind it driving on the road. It is really a matter of preference. Once I pick up another daily driver, I will probably get one for my car.

I have the light flywheel, it took a little getting used to. Both stalling and the noise. Once you get it down the stalling is not a problem. Sitting in traffic at light, someone who is near by that doesn't know what they are listening to may think your car has a problem.
I love the setup myself. |
I love mine. As wross stated, the slight chatter is only noticable with the clutch disengaged. I have a porsche lightweight flywheel. It's steel with quite a bit of the material machined away. My mechanic said he wouldn't put in an aluminum one due to heat warpage and too-light-stalling. You do have to give it more gas from a dead start, but you'll get used to that quickly.

so which flywheel should i get and where should i buy it from? i haven't really found anything online besides vividracing. vivid sells fidanza lwfw's and spec clutches. i don't really know much about either brand.
where would you find the sach's clutch and lwfw packages? being supercharged, i'm not sure what clutch to get either.... they seem to range from stock to stage 5 and i'm not sure where i fit in. here is the link to vivid's clutch options: http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/i...Path/4257_4313 here is the link to their lwfw: http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/i...Path/4257_4290 is this stuff any good? the price seems to be decent. i'm open to other options/brands/retailers.... |
here's another site. again, too many options. i have no idea what i need.

Got mine from Kevin at UMW. Sachs stage 2 and LWFW.
|
i looked on their site. they only have TT stuff. actually, seems like most sites only carry tt stuff. i guess most tuners assume the NA vehicles won't really get much over stock levels.
|
Evo did mine in Az and I had the Stage II clutch at the same time they reworked my SC. I have all my old stuff and it was not worn at all with only 16000 m. It is noisy when you are in too high a gear but I love the responsiveness and quick revving. You might give them a call and talk to Todd or Mike and see what they are recommending. Will
|
will: did you use EVO's products or did you supply your own? the evo stuff is really expensive.
i'm still trying to figure out whey some flywheels cost $500 and some cost $1000 |
where to buy

where can i buy this stage 2 setup ? have a link please? also, when your at a light, do people look and ever ask if something is wrong w your car ? is it that loud ? can you feather the clutch a little to quiet it down ? dean |
I got my set up (clutch and flywheel) from Imagine Auto.
The only thing I regret is not going strong enough with the clutch to support future mods, GT700 pending...LOL If at all possible find one in your area and listen to it, that would be best. |
