Bluish-white smoke from exhaust on start-up.

I was leaving work today and cranked up the 996 and a huge plume of bluish-white smoke billowed from the exhaust for a good 20 seconds. Paranoid I rushed over to my mechanic but was unable to replicate the situation.

I also talked to my dealer and he said that this was normal. I understand if the car has been sitting for a while this might happen but I drove the car not 6 hours earlier. I did drive the car really hard this morning but that's what these cars are built for.

Any ideas or experiences with this?

Normal for a Flat engine because the oil leaks past the piston rings after cooling down and because of gravity it settles at the bottom of the cylinder. iirc Porsche even put out a TSB to the stealers I mean dealers not to even bother with it.

This has happened to me before. I started the engine for a brief moment to move the car. Then, the next day when I started the car lots of bluish smoke was coming from the exhaust.

Not to Worry!

These cars will do this. Especially after a nice spirited driving session on the track. That is generally when mine may do it. Key word is "may". I had a Boxster, and it would do the same thing. It is a bit disconscerting, but it is normal.

BTW: Glad you are enjoying the X74. I told you that you would not be sorry!! It is the way this car was meant to be. Just got back from Roebling Road Raceway for a DE, and the car was COMPLETELY transformed. I dropped seconds from my previous times.

No worries Britt. I get a puff of blue from time to time and I often see it on turbos. Now if it was sweet smelling white smoke, that would be a problem.

I cranked her up this morning and no smoke. I guess I just flogged the hell out of her yesterday and she was letting off some steam. Thanks for the input.
