How's this for Factory Install??
Allright so some of you saw my thread detailing my 02+ horseshoe and interior conversion and noticed that I got a kenwood 7019 in-dash Touchscreen...
Well after using it a couple days, I was bummed to find out that you cant skip directories but can only cycle through them folder by folder. Well with a MP3 DVD this could take FOREVER... I played around with some options and finally found one that would work. I made this custom skin/menu to apply to every CD that I burn. I think its pretty slick so here you go! The clarity of the monitor isnt justified with these pics. Im using an OK digi camera and its dark out in my garage so the flash gets some washout and glare.First is the skin file and then some working shots: http://plaza.ufl.edu/keith3/Porsche/...ackground2.jpg http://plaza.ufl.edu/keith3/Porsche/...d/100_0379.jpg http://plaza.ufl.edu/keith3/Porsche/...d/100_0366.jpg |

Yea yea yea! AC trim is on the way but right now I am custom modifing a bottom inclosure to move the AC to the upper lower console spot and retain a storage slot...

Correct me if I am not understanding this right...you cant save that pic as the background so you save it on the CD's you burn? Are there any inputs like a SD card or anything? |
no psm or traction control....very nice!!!

That looks great. I think that is going to be the Headunit I use.

Very nice!! I will be doing this exact install this weekend, and will post pics as well.
I have the Kenwood DNX-7100 unit, it is a few hundred more but has integrated NAV (no external brain or other purchase needed). My 02c- if anyone is thinking about doing this upgrade, if you do not want NAV go with the unit Keith purchased, if you want NAV go with the DNX7100- Prices have come down considerably lately on both unit models. The 7100 is nice for NAV b/c it loads all maps on to an internal 30gb hard drive and calls them from flash RAM. So you do not have to leave the NAV DVD inserted to use it. You can find the 7019 online (usually ebay) for about $700-ish. The 7100 will be closer to the $900-$1000 range. |
LOL- yeah i'm from Hawaii (moved to LA for work) - If i'm not at work i'm always in slippers as well. Rock on!

The unit has a USB port that i can plug a flash drive, ipod, or even my 300gb external hard drive if I wanted. I ran this to the footwell. The limitations of this are that you can only go up or down ONE folder at a time. My DVD solution is a way around this. Of course if I plug in a USB drive I can't use this method because there is no selection menu. I am basically tricking the headunit into thinking it is a movie and browsing to a scene, which is really an album with individual chapters(the tracks)
