Tiptronic / can't rev engine in park or neutral

So this is way odd-
it seems that there is some sort of rev limiter that will not let me rev the engine past say 2500rpm in park or neutral. Any other tip owners have same problem?

This may be an odd question....but why would you want to? Revving a car with no resistance can do damage to the engine....so its not recommended by Porsche.

i just wanted to check the sound of the exhaust now that it has burned in a bit. not talking winding it up to 6k rpm, just a few blips to check things out. but there is some damn rev limiter that cuts in at 2500 or so, lame.

interesting point though- is there really a dif with revving an engine in neutral to say 6k vs. winding it out to 6k before shifting?

Yes, you need to have the engine under a load to safely rev that high.

p0rsch3, YES, there is a limiter, and I think it's set at 4500rpm.
I've asked the question before and that was the answer,
and I was also cautioned not to rev it without load.

But if you can't rev past 2500rpm....that might be something else, I dunno.

Did Porsche really say this? It's a load of crap.
