Air filter/intake suggestions

Hey this is my first message, just signed up 4/18. Could use input on upgrading the air filter and intake of my 1999 996 C2 Cab. K&N or ??? any suggestions or web sites to visit?

Thanks:)

You could try the fabspeed or evolution cold air intake in conjuction with a BMC filter... im not really sure what others are out there.

Thanks for the suggestions, is there any place to find specs to compare different systems?

Thanks Dave

I dont think there is one difinite site that would show specs and comparisons. However you can try the company websites to compare for yourself. www.fabspeed.com and www.evoms.com Both are sponsors of this forum and you can find their advertisments on the far right. Hope that helps.

I would not waste my money on a new intake or filter. Neither have been proven to increase the power in an NA 996. In fact, it may cost power in some situations.

Save your money for something worthwhile.

Since the dawn of time, there has been the myth that there are magical air filters, and intake plenums that increase HP and gas milage.

Those that manufacture them for Porsche seem to have elevated the hype to a new level.

I must say that if you are looking for a cosmetic addition to your engine, pick one of the carbon fiber plenum tubes, but none of the stuff out there will make your car perform any better, and in many cases will upset the balance of the engine, and cause your CEL to come on.

Today's engines are finely balanced as a system, and are software driven. Mucking with stuff will only give you problems.

Had a Powerflow on mine for awhile...total piece of JUNK. Tripped the check engine light all the time (spent a lot of time at the dealer trying to make it work because it sounded cool from inside the car), but no power gain.

Big mistake. Would never do that again.

keep it stock...

Just save $$$ for a PSE (Porsche Sport exhaust). Get a K&N filter if you want. Forget the airbox mods. If you get a PSE you will never hear the airbox mods anyway.

my .02 cents

Hey I appreciate everyones input. This is a great way to learn from all your experience. Thanks for saving me $400!!!! I just bought my C2 and it already has sport exhaust, sounds great.

Don't waste big $$ on intake stuff, best bet is to keep the stock intake and install BMC filter, little better breathing and maybe a few hp on top end.
